  • Wow I miss pizza!

Hi everybody, just joined this tonite and am hoping this will work for me as well as it has for some of you! I have been on the diet for 2 1/2 months now and have lost 24 lbs, so I guess there is something to this! I have been overweight for the last 20 years, and this seems to be the only thing that works. I'd love tips on different foods besides meat and eggs, LOL.... I love prime rib so that helps a lot... Guess I also was wondering if all-you-can-eat crablegs are a bad idea or not... I started this with my girlfriend and a couple other friends, we all are doing well, but it seems to be working for me the best they all think... I am considering doing more to accelerate the process if possible, have found I have a lot more energy than I had before... Anyways, guess I'll keep ya all posted, have a great one, everybody!

    Welcome to the board, snaponhabit!

There are so many low-carb recipes that substitute for our old favorites. Check out Linda's Low Carb Recipes. That's my favorite site for recipes. She even has a recipe for low-carb pizza !

Atkins is the only thing that works for a lot of people. I don't know what I'd do without it. When I eat non-Atkins I'm completely out of control with my eating. Not so on this WOE/WOL (way of eating/way of life).

That's great that you are doing this with others. It's great to have support in "real life", not just on the board.

All you can eat crab legs are fine...as long as you eat until you are full and not "gorged" as Dr. Atkins says. If you don't have the book yet I suggest getting a copy. Maybe you and your girlfriend and your friends can read it together. It's Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution 2002.

Visit often, read lots, and ask questions if you have them.

        Clogger's response was right on!

Pizza has always been my number one favorite food. I simply eat only the toppings when my husband orders a pizza. But I make sure to have a nice large salad with "pizza toppings" in it - like peppers, mushrooms, black and green olives, etc.

        Good luck!

Way to go ... on the weight you and your friends have lost so far! Great job.

The suggested Linda's site is fantastic.. or you could do oppsie rolls which do great for pizza crust.

Low carb bread? Try Oopsie rolls! - A Pinch of Health - Australian Low Carb Forum

Personally, I couldn't live entirely without pasta, bread or tortillas so I get the low carb DREAMFIELDS (I found at HEB) which is only 5 carbs if you cook it right (tastes like the real thing).

I also use MISSION CARB BALANCE fajita tortillas (5 carbs-found at Walmart) for mexican food and as thin crisp pizza crust. When I want a quick meal or snack.. I just load the tortilla up with all the meats, veggie toppings, Italian seasoning, garlic salt and bake for a few minutes or make some taco meat with all the taco fixings, including sour cream. It's good.. take my word for it!

No need to deny yourself wonderful eatery pleasures.. just get creative with what you know you can eat and how much. Best of luck!

Just remember to succeed in this WOE/WOL you should follow the steps Dr. Atkins laid out and that means climbing the OWL ladder. Therefore low-carb pasta is not allowed yet ~ especially during induction and the beginning OWL rungs. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news !

Please take some time to go through Atkins Low Carb Dieting - FAQ's.

snaponhabit, in your first post you said "I am considering doing more to accelerate the process if possible". If you follow the plan as Dr. Atkins modeled it you will see great progress. If, at this stage of the game, you jump right into eating low-carb pasta and low-carb tortillas you may just end up in the same boat you've been in the last twenty years.

I'm not trying to be harsh, I just want to help set you up for success.

                Good luck!

                      Re: Wow I miss pizza!

There is a pizza that is acceptable on induction- its califlower crust pizza. I made it and it has a slightly diffferent texture - but the overall taste is similiar. There is a way to make the crust not so mushy, I just haven't acheived it yet.
Also - you need to be carefull not to go over the cheese limit that is on induction, but otherwise this is Really good

                        Re: Wow I miss pizza!

I take about 4 tbs of flax meal, 1 egg, garlic powder, pinch of salt, oregano, basil, and whatever other herbs look yummy that day. Mix all together. Pour into the middle of a lightly greased cookie sheet. Use the back of a spoon to carefully spread, but not too thin. Then bake at 350* for about 10-15 mins. Flip and bake about 5 mins more.
Then put toppings on and rebake til cheese is melted.
                        Enjoy.
It took me a few times playing around with the amounts of herbs but now I love this crust. I know it may be a bit above the induction limit for flax but I never had a problem with in while on induction. You could always cut the amount for a real tiny pizza I suppose.

                        Good luck.
