  • Starting Induction Today!

    Hello All!

Well, today is day one for me. I have peaked my highest weight EVER...I weigh more now than when I was nine months pregnant! I have been feeling sluggish and depressed about my weight for over a year now. I broke my leg a few years ago and had surgery to repair and since then, my weight has been climbing at a steady rate since then. I am a confessed carb ADDICT and I know the first few days (weeks) will be rough for me.

My biggest concern is that I will be able to afford this diet. Is it just me or is meat expensive?

Thankfully, the company Christmas brunch was somewhat induction friendly.

    Re: Starting Induction Today!

Hi welcome to ADBB. So what made you pick Atkins? I think it is a good choice.
I agree that meats can be expensive. But I think the nutritional value is good compared to some of the empty calories I see many people place in their grocery carts.
You may try buying in bulk that will keep down cost. Look and take advantage of all kinds of sales. A local store here put meat on sale in the mornings if it is about to expire and I usually get some 50% meats to put in the freezer if I can get there in time. So shop wisely and it will work!!

Hi there and welcome, I was a carb freak too, try out the awesome recipes for induction. I am LIVING off of the mock danish, and the atkins rolls. You don't feel like your dieting at all after a couple weeks! Have fun with it, and envision yourself skinny all-the-time. You will do it.

          Re: Starting Induction Today!

I have cut my food bill in half since starting Atkins. It is way cheaper to make your meals from scratch than eating out. I had no idea how much I ate out until I stopped. My friends are always amazed when we are out and I break out the steak and asparagus or salmon salad! Cheese is the only thing that I find expensive so I only do about 8 ounces a week. Keep us posted, Good Luck and Merry Christmas!

            Re: Starting Induction Today!

I did Atkins years ago and had success. I lost about 60 pounds then went on vacation and blew it. I broke my leg, had surgery, spents weeks on the couch, got depressed and I'm sure most of you know the rest of the story.

I'm determined this time. I am having some serious headaches today but I know it will pass.

                  Re: Starting Induction Today!

There are some inexpensive meats you can get. I bought a 10 lb pork shoulder for $12. I smoked it, pulled it, and used a "carolina style" bbq sauce on it. I have been eating it for days. Carolina style BBQ sauce is more hot sauce, vinegar, and butter. You can add some balsamic vinegar for a little sweetness, but it has 2 grams of carbs per tablespoon. It's really good. Chicken wings are also inexpensive. After a few days you should find your appetite really decreases anyway. Also, turkey goes on sale today. Welcome to the group and stay strong!

Welcome back blueeyedvirgo! If you ate out a lot before, like bigROB said, you will be spending less when you buy and prepare things at home. I usually buy family-sized packs of meat because it can be 50 cents to a dollar less per pound. Then I parse it and freeze what I'm not going to use right away. Tuna is pretty cheap.

                    Good luck to you!

If we have an oopsie like that we do not start over - we just continue. It is a really good thing to learn that we have to continue if we fall down. Also when we eat something illegal it is a good thing to sit down and think over why it happened so that we can avoid it. We need to build up plenty of will power so a good talking to ourselves is useful
Anyways - great that you are back on. That is how to be.
