  • My First Day---- and having CRAVINGS already

    Hey everyone. So, I've decided to give this a shot. I'm having some serious carb craving issues!!!!!since that's about all I normally eat- I'm not a huge meat fan, so I'm really looking forward to adding tons of veggies to the diet. I'm really hoping these first 14 days are a life-saver, since I have upcoming wedding for a friend that I'd really like to be able to WEAR MY MOH DRESS TO. Teehee. Don't get me wrong- I'm not in this for a crash diet. I just need some help with my will power, because some rice is sounding really good..... It helps to have a good recipe website I can raid for low carb ideas;

    ~~~~~But I need some ideas for snacks. Hunger pangs are the pits. Can anyone help me? Is there a thread already in here somewhere?
    Re: My First Day---- and having CRAVINGS already
    Carb addiction is as real as drug and alcohol addiction. Your body will fight you hard for a few days to get it's fix. If you eat plenty of fat and moderate protein, you'll get into ketosis faster and that will nip the carb cravings in the bud. After you get into ketosis, you will have very little appetite. These first few days, keep fatty snacks around (cheese, cream cheese stuffed celery, a hunk of chicken dipped in mayo or boiled or deviled eggs) to munch on frequently. I didn't like meat much at all at the beginning, but love it now.
    You do know that Atkins is high fat, not high protein? If you add real butter, olive oil and mayonnaise to your meals, you don't have to eat a lot of meat. Eggs are the perfect protein and they are good with butter or mayo in egg salad or deviled eggs. Avocado is filling and has good fats. You are allowed half per day on induction.
    Be sure to drink lots of water to flush out the nasties from your body. You will be detoxing in a big way.
    Sunny!
    People who say it can't be done, should not interrupt those doing it.
        Welcome, Yessi, and best of luck to you!
        Thanks for the help, Sunny- I read the book, but it's been quite a while, so I don't remember all of it- I was sticking to what I could recall. That chicken sounds good.... maybe some chicken salad **Mmmmmm.......** Could you possibly expain ketosis? I understand the basics, but not all.
            Re: My First Day---- and having CRAVINGS already
            Ditto to everything Sunny said (she's an expert )!
            In addition I'd say during the first couple/few days EAT anytime you are hungry even if it feels like you're eating all the time. Once your body gets into ketosis (which means your body is primarily burning fat for fuel rather than glucose) your appetite will naturally be suppressed and you will be able to eat normal amounts and be satisfied.
            Tuna with mayo is another good, filling snack (you can add things to it ~ celery, pickles, cheese, etc). You can have 15-20 olives per day. Drink lots of water. Make sure to only have 3-4 ounces of cheese per day.
            You should really get a copy of Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution 2002. Order one from Amazon or check it out from your local library. It's nice to have a copy on hand to look things up and read it for motivation. Until you get the book a good place to start is If you are NEW, READ THIS!
            Good luck to you!
                        Thanks, everyone. I really appreciate the support. Is is normal to gain 1-2 lbs after switching from a low-fat, high carb diet to this?
                        ~~~Yesterday I was really wanting some tortilla chips. I found that real bacon bits cured that. WAYYYYY too much salt, but maybe that was what did it. I mixed cream cheese, Mexican blend cheese, shredded chicken, bacon bits, and a dollop of ranch dressing. My hubby thought I was crazy for eating it with a spoon, but it worked!

                          Re: My First Day---- and having CRAVINGS already

                          Um, I don't think that's normal in the first few days. You should post in Forums > Atkins Phases > Review My Menu so you can get feedback on what your eating to see if it is in-line with Induction and then you can find the culprit(s) that are keeping you from losing.

                          You should also include info like if you're exercising, is it that "time of the month", how much water you are drinking, are you "regular", are you taking any medications, etc.

                          Also, your signature doesn't contain your height and your current weight/goal weight (or just how much you want to lose total).

                          All of the above will help others on this board give you appropriate feedback.
