  • Hello!! Introduction!!

I am a 29 year old Desktop Publisher living in Indianapolis, IN.

    I'm a professional weight loser.

AGE 17/18 - I lost 70 pounds in high school going from 220 to 150 my senior year just from exercising.

AGE 20/21 - Then in college I went back up to 220 because well - I liked drinking/partying and when I did - my friends and I HAD to have 3 a.m. IHOP meetings! lol

AGE 22/23 - Well - my senior year of college I tried weight watchers and I had good luck with it. I went from 220 to 180 on weight watchers at the age

AGE 23 - My senior year of college I gained back 25 of those 40 that I lost on weight watchers and after I graduated college in 2003, I went back to weight watchers and went from 205 pounds down to 160!!!

Pretty much after I went down to 160, I maintained that for about a year but I had just moved down to Indianapolis from Chicago and hadn't really found my "niche" yet - going from job to job - relationship to relationship - my weight suffered (even though I was constantly exercising and "dieting") and I gained back 20 pounds...then I found my FANTASTIC job in June of 2005 and then in October 2006 I started dating the most FANTASTIC man. I gained 17 more pounds and - after we started dating - I tried to get back into exercising and eating right and even though - in 2007 I was honest to god exercising 4 times a week AND eating right - I couldn't lose ONE FREAKING OUNCE!!!!

I went to the doc in October of 2007 and she diagnosed me with Insulin Resistance. Meaning that when I eat carbs, they just turn straight to fat. my body just doesn't process sugar and carbs like a normal person - and so I couldn't lose weight.

She put me on metformin and told me to try the Atkins diet - but I'd always been SO incredibly against "low carb" diets because I'd ALWAYS heard that they were "bad" for you...but I did lose about 20 pounds last year doing the weight watchers CORE program (basically all non-processed foods).

Then my boyfriend proposed in June and we started looking for a house in September so the weight came right back on because I stopped going to the gym and I stopped exercising.

In the past few months now, I have realized - not exercising and eating "whatever" that every time I eat a high carb meal - I get sick. I'm sick and tired of getting sick. So I'm listening to my doc and I'm going to learn the atkins nutritional way of life.

welcome to the low carb club!

As a gainer then looser then gainer then looser dieter myself, I can feel your pain and frustration about weight loss. One thing that really helped me alot was understanding what caused me to fall off the waggon. A little soul searching within may be painful but worth the effort.

          Welcome to ADBB, keriann!

My doctor is the one who pointed me to the Atkins program, as well. It's the best thing that ever happened to me! There are so many people (health professionals included) who don't fully understand the Atkins way of eating, and therefore think it is unhealthy. NOT TRUE!

If you haven't read the book yet, please do. This board is based around the 2002 version of Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (DANDR for short). Knowledge is power, and will help you understand and stick to plan. Here is a link to some information that will help you until you can get your hands on the book. http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...-new-read.html

Stay close to this board and post often. You can do this!

Hi There! I have insulin resistance as well - it is a symptom of PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome), so I'm raring to get going on this diet as I want to get my life back again. I hate the mood swings.

Wishing you all the best on your quest!

              Re: Hello!! Introduction!!

Thank you all so very much!!! And, MITZIMARIE - wow! your pics are incredible and you are beautiful!!!

I know this isn't going to be easy - I've been up and down so much in my life with my weight it's like, "really? can it be serious this time?"...
Which - to tell the truth - I've ALWAYS been serious about my weight loss - honestly after 2004 when I lost the bulk of my weight on Weight Watchers, I was CONSTANTLY trying to maintain the loss by exercising and eating right - but my body has said, "nope - sorry i don't want to help anymore - instead i want to turn all your carbs & sugar into fat!!!!"
Thing is, too - my family (both parents, grandparents, etc) has a history of diabetes - and it seems to me - that no amount of LOW-FAT / LOW CALORIE dieting anymore is going to help me.

What I need to do is find the real lifestyle that works for my BODY not just one that I can do mentally - but one that my BODY needs - and now, knowing that (from my doc's mouth) that I can not process carbs and sugar the way 'normal' (what's normal anymore anyways? lol) - but the way 'normal' people do - I'm going to listen to her.

I've been reading up on this way of life now for a few days - and even got input from a friend who did it in college (who's now on weight watchers, which is working for her) - and from what I read - this is EXACTLY what I need to do for my body.

Yes - I do want to lose weight - there's no question about that. My fiance and I are getting married in June of 2010 and darnit, I want to be a thin bride!

But other than that - I really am sick and tired of having to (sorry, tmi here) - but having to run to the bathroom and staying in there for an hour after I eat a meal! Or get up in the morning and doing the same thing.

I've always been SUCH a supporter of people exercising, eating right and being as healthy as one can be - but I guess I just haven't listened to my own body as far as what I need to do for my physical body - not just what I can do mentally (counting points, etc...).

I'm very excited to start atkins and I'm going to get the book today.

I did buy a few off of amazon (some cookbooks and companion books) and once I buy the main book today - grocery shopping night is sunday - and I'm rearin' and ready to go!!
