  • Is It Just Me?

Is it just me or is the Atkin's book written HORRIBLY? It's one of the hardest things I've read in a long time, and I usually breeze through books. The diet itself is wonderful, but I'm wondering if that's why so many people are often so confused in the beginning.

I didn't find that at all. I devoured it when I first read it cause it seemed to make so much sense. The Atkins for Life was confusing to me.

tou should read the 1972 version. It is very hard to read. Very dated in style.

I thought the 2002 was a fairly easy read. It is a bit repetitive though.

One thing you need to know is that Dr. Atkins didn't personally write any of his books--he was a doctor with a huge NYC practice, not an author. They were written with a ghost writer and according to his biography, opinions differed and sometimes the ghost writer put stuff in that she/he thought would make the book better and would appeal to a wider audience. Dr. A, being the opinionated man that he was, was noted for getting into some catfights with the writers, but still some of the stuff still got into print. There are some contridictions in each of his books due to this.

What I have to do is pick out the most strict recommendation for both quantities and allowable foods. I have a lot to lose and have a hard time taking it off and keeping it off, so I don't want to fool around with recommendations that will make the diet easier to do, but not get as good results. Long term results are what I am after, so using more cream than is good for me might taste good and make me feel better on the short term; but in the long term, if I stall out and quit, it's not worth it for me.

Since I have read almost every one of the books, I can usually pick out what is the Good Doctor's advice and what isn't. If it is sugar-coated advice, then it didn't come from him, if you know what I mean!

Good points. You're right, Chef I think some of it is repetitive. SunnySmiles, you're also right -- I'm realizing those things too.
