  • Stopped Procrastinating and done something about it

    Hiya All

A bit about myself - I am a 33 year old Aussie guy.. work full time. I am a big lad - and have been ever since my mid-20s. I weighed in at 124kg at my worst (273lbs - sorry if I forget not everyone uses the metric system). I have not got any major health problems so far - despite my doctor keeping a close watch on me.

I do have Sleep Apnoea - which was recently diagnosed (much to my annoyance - wearing those breathing masks). So at this point, I decided to do something about it - and stop living on junk food.

I started Atkins in early Decemeber. While I cannot say I have been really happy with the results so far, I do feel better and have lost a bit of weight (119.6kg aka 263lbs).

I will post in the relevant section, to see if I am doing anything wrong. I did have a "hiatus" over the Christmas week but did not gain anything back.

The good news is so far I have overcome food addictions I had.. Had a thing for ice coffee, meat pies, and icecream, and Maccas. I am quite happily living without any of them.

I am not an active fellow - but I am changing that by going to play squash with a friend and will start myself off there. Here's hoping Atkins can help me shed the unwanted kgs and make me start feeling better about myself. I am looking forward to sharing the support of all on the board

Congratulations on solid improvements so far! the activity will help step up the weight loss and you will feel amazing. Have fun! smart to join in with a friend and a game, not a 'regimen.' Good job on kicking junk food, that is wonderful and getting over the addictions is a big plus!

Best of luck to you, Fro. And 10 pounds is great -- especially the month of December! Stay with it, and you'll continue to see results. In the meantime, congratulations on ridding yourself of some food addictions.

      Take care!

Hi Folks - been a while since I came on but I have been sticking with the Diet with good results.

I am now 236lbs. I walk 2.5 miles every day and play squash once a week. The best part is when people notice that I have lost the weight!

I have a single Atkins chocolate bar on a Friday morning - and every few weeks I might drink a low carb beer or two.

I gave up the sleep apnoea breathing mask and do feel a lot better for it too. The doctor is very happy overall too.

I have been going with the following diet -:

        Breakfast - 3 pieces of bacon - 3 eggs
Lunch - Steak, Onion, and 2 slices of cheese
Dinner - Steak, Onion, and 2 slices of cheese

Doesnt sound very exciting - but it is working Thanks to all for their support and comments

Great Job on the weight you've lost so far. The one thing I noticed about your diet is that you aren't eating any vegetables. On induction you are supposed to have 3 cups of salad or 2 cups of salad and 1 cup of induction vegetable.

Thanks for the feedback jjmccauley. I do have the onion as you can see - but I guess I don't have the two cups of salad. Is the salad a required part of Atkins? And does it aid the weight loss process?

Yes, 3 cups of veggies are one of the rules of induction. For some people, eating more veggies helps with weight loss. But this is not the point of the 3 cups rule. If you do not eat your veggies (damn, I sound like mom :P), you will not get the minerals and vitamins you need for staying healthy. While you might lose weight, you are probably developing some serious vitamin deficiencies. Taking supplements helps indeed, but it does not substitute the stuff you get from food. They are just what their name says -- supplements.
