  • I am back for the last time!!

I am back for the last time. This time I am going to make a total life style change and stick with it. No starting over again!!

I have been on and off Atkins for a few years. When I stuck to it I was able to lose 40 lbs. I actually got down to 225. Now I am up to an all time high of 284 lbs. I feel a lot older than my stated 46 years. I fell 8 times in 2008. The last time I fell was before Christmas. Fell of a curb that was not there....it was the cart ramp...duh...no curb. I had been lucky in the past and not seriously hurting myself but that time I sprained my ankle pretty bad. Nice shade of purple and blue. I would have been in a pickle if it had been my left ankle---I drive a truck that is a standard. I would have been stranded for a few days.

Well, seeing that I am taking more meds than my 95 y/o grandmother along with falling last year more than her, I think it is really time to look at my weight and get it off.

I am a mother of two kids...my teenage daughter is still at home and my son is grown and raising his own family now... along with my 2 grandchildren. My daughter is old enough to know what I need to do and she is a great motivator.

It is time to get back on the band wagon and do the deal. I know what to do, I just have GOT TO DO IT.

Re: I am back for the last time!!

        Welcome back Kathy!

I know you can do this!!!!! One thing you might want to do is look back and try to figure out what went wrong the other times where you were doing sooooo good and then things went "pear shaped" and you went off course. I have learned that for me, I had to do that this time around because I am an emotional eater so that discovery has been crucial in my success because for me, I have learned that I have to deal with emotional things in a new way and not stuff myself with food to try to "feel better" and get through something that stresses me out. In other words...why is it we turn to food and go against the progress we have made and slip?

I have also made sure that I prepare food and surround myself with the foods I can eat so I'm not tempted to reach for a piece of my husband's bread or whatever else he's able to eat that I am not.

Like I said above, I know you can do this...you deserve it!

Let us know how things are progressing for you...come here lots, read as much as you can and post often...we're all in this together!

Re: I am back for the last time!!

Thanks for all the support. Retrosprectively I can look back and see what went wrong and why I did not stay on it. For one, not being prepared. Not having a meal plan and knowing what I was going to cook. When I lost the weight I kept a lot of things in the house that I could have so I had no excuses.
Work is a big stress and I do a lot of stress eating. I can say that I have gained the last 10-15 lbs of weigth after I stopped drinking diet cokes.... yes, i said gained. I would use the diet coke as a stress reliever... if i was stressed at work i would take my break and "go get a drink" which consisted of 52 of fountain diet coke...and I could go through 4 of those in one day. I have had 2 diet cokes since September. But I just switched to something different without caffiene, and only drink 1 a day. Now I am pretty much drinking water...and lots of eat. Instead of eating when I am stressed I will just drink the water, or just take a few deep breaths and relax.
My biggest problem is not having the things that I need on hand...which I have fixed, and not getting enough exercise...which I plan to change. My 17 y/o daughter helps out a lot and does not allow me to eat things that I am not suppose to have...to the point of using that stern voice that parents use.
We are starting a "Biggest Loser" at work tomorrow and I am in. I could use a little spending money for new clothes...after I lose the weight.
