    1. Hey guys I have been a member on this board for a few years now but never posted. Here's the story...Five years ago I went on Atkins and was tremendously successful. I lost about 60 pounds in 4 months taking me down to a very manageable 190 pounds. Well after some physical setbacks ( broken hand, torn ligaments in the other hand, pnemonia and so on) I have pretty much gained back all of it. I have tried over the years to restart but to no success. But this time I have tunnel vision. I know I can do it but I need some help. My job now requires me to drive a ton and stay overnights in hotel rooms. From experience I have learned that these two things together can be very tough on a diet. So if anybody would have suggestions for me for snack foods and dinners that can be eaten from the comfort of my car or hotel room while being on induction. Thank You guys and I promise I will not be a stranger!

    Re: Hoping Lightning Strikes Again

hey Sledge -- welcome!!! My brother has your "problem" with being away from home most evenings and staying in hotels. What he does is on weekends (or whatever day he's home) he makes up a few meals, puts them in microwave containers and takes them in a cooler while he's gone - warms them at the hotel at night. Since he's not gone more than 3 - 4 days at a time he doesn't have to freeze them. For lunches he has meat and cheese and salads made up that he can grab and drive down the road (not recommended..LOL!).
He also has veggies cut up that he can grab if he needs something quickly. Boiled or deviled eggs work also. Get yourself a good size cooler & load it up.

Don't know if you use Linda's recipe site or not, but it's one of the best (she has pictures that really make it easier). Linda's Low Carb Menus & Recipes - Daily Menus

If you do have your blinders on this time and commit to this WOE, even on the road you can make it work. Brother has lost about 60 pounds - he says he uses the exercise rooms at the hotels if they have them -- if not, he can walk, push-ups, sit ups, etc in his room. He carries a jump rope also....you CAN do this...

Hope to hear of great progress from you again!!

I do a bit of work related driving and I have found that snacking in my car is my problem. This become one of my constant eating things - unnecessary eating (like in front of the TV and in front of the computer) so I make sure I consciously avoid this. Eating is for meals.

Just want to give you guys an update. So far so good. I am on my sixth day and I am down 14 pounds. I know it sounds like alot but I always have a big drop on induction. So I am hoping to drop at least 20-22 pounds by the end of this week. I am just worried that I have to go away on the road for 4 days this week.

Hey, congratulations on the 14lbs, that's awesome!! I recently found out that a lot more hotels are now offering 24-hour fitness rooms which is really spectacular.. Or they have "fit rooms" available at some places.

                  Hi Sledge.

I am new as well...maybe we can lean on each other if we get stuck! I bet keeping in touch with the boards will keep you strong at night. I find myself surfing a lot and that occupies my nights. When it is me myself and I - the three of us eat out of boredom.

                  Let's chat!

                  Good luck!

I will be glad to chat especially at night when I am in room and temptation starts to creep in. I will probably be on every night this week so we will catch up!

                      Re: Hoping Lightning Strikes Again

                      When I get tempted I
                      1. Grab a water. Usually it is my old munching habit that is kicking in, and like a quitting smoker, I just need something to physically break the focus on the urge.

                      2. Exercise. I find it harder to negate my hard work if I have worked out.

                      3. Look for new recipes on Linda's page. Occupies my mind with food in a more analytical way.

                      4. LOOK AT BEFORE AND AFTERS! Just realizing others have done it too makes me want to stay on point.

Maybe some of those things will help you.
Trying to become half the man I am right now.

Hey guys just wanted to give a update. Just now finishing up a 3 day trip and I think it pretty well. No cheats except one. I was having a meeting with some top muckity mucks of course at a restaurant and had half a light beer. Pretty much just held it all night with a sip here and there. Other than that it went great and I know I must still be in ketosis because I feel it. Hard to explain but when I was on Atkins before I just knew when it was working. Well I guess I will go find a way to work off my half a light beer. Thanks guys!

Well an update to the update. Got home today and I had to run to the scale. I lost 4 pounds in those 3 days. So I am down 18 pounds in 9 days. But I know it will start to slow down some. But all in all I feel pretty good.
