  • Greetings from a Low Carb Rookie Here! And I mean ROOKIE!

    Hi All!

Today was my very first day of the Induction phase. I have NEVER done a low carb diet before so this is all very new to me.

I've struggled with my weight for most of my life. A couple of years ago, I did Weight Watchers and was able to lose 75 pounds. I liked the program very much (along with the results), but personal and emotional problems have caused me to lose focus and gain all the weight back. I just stopped caring.

I've FINALLY have been able to find the motivation to tackle this weight problem once again and this time wanted to try Atkins which so many people I know have mentioned over the years, yet I've zoned them out, only wanting to focus on Weight Watchers.

This is a whole new way of eating for me as my usual diet has been filled with a lot of rice, not much in proteins, and lots of fruits and vegetables. Oh yes... and I couldn't possibly leave out the admission of non-stop snacking!

I'm almost done with Day 1 and feel pretty good. Only thing is I have a massive headache and I'm thinking it may be the caffeine I had to skip for the day. I'll live, though, as it's such a small price to pay to reap such outstanding benefits from what I've read.

Anyway, don't mean to ramble on here. Just thought I'd say HELLO and that I'm looking forward to joining this community. Hope to run into you in a thread or two in the near future!

Hi and welcome. I'm a rookie too (4 whopping days ahead of you as I'm just finishing day 5 of Induction myself). I too was a Weight Watchers "success", and I too have never considered low-carb as an option before now. But WW is only successful for me if I'm willing to be hungry all the time and I just have trouble doing that. So what the heck, I'm willing to give this a try for 14 days (or a month) to either convince myself it doesn't work...or surprise myself that it actually can work for me! Hopefully the latter.

I have always been a carb addict so this WOE is so different. I am a huge veggie and fruit eater, rice, etc. just like you. So it's a real switch in thinking to eat this way with so much protein and so much fat. That being said, I'm surprised that I seem to be getting used to it much faster than I expected to and it already feels less strange to me. It's lovely not to be craving carbs all the time! I hope you will find the same to be true.

    Good luck with Induction!

Welcome to induction flu! DRINK LOTS OF WATER and have plenty of induction friendly foods around to fight the cravings. Your blood sugar will stabilize soon, and your cravings will subside. You WILL have moments of weakness, so I suggest carrying a small cooler with you at all times with prepared food. TRUST ME. At the end of the 2 weeks of induction move up into OWL. The different rungs will teach you how to eat, and teach you what foods work (and don't work) for you. Good luck and Happy New Year!

Thank you! It's comforting to know someone else shares the same weaknesses and I'm so glad to know you're getting used to it quickly. That's great to hear and I'm happy knowing you're doing well. Continued success to you too and thanks again!

YES! That's what it feels like I have -- the flu! My craving for COFFEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE is extremely bad right now, but I trust I will get over this. Hopefully sooner than later, too. Thank you so much for the very valuable tips. I am taking them to heart and really appreciate it!
