  • It actually works! I was a disbeliever....

I am so glad I found these forums! During the holidays, I was thinking of my new year's resolutions and the first same that came to my mind every time was LOSE WEIGHT!!

I'm 24, just shy of 5'2 and at my highest, I was 142lbs. Growing up, I was always overweight and made fun. Especially since I'm Asian and most us of are naturally very slim. In the winter of 2nd year university (early 2005) I finally went down to 115lbs (really more by not eating well than anything...) but that summer all I did was work and party. It was fast food, pub grub, and beer beer beer! I didn't gain much weigh, though since I biked or walked quite a distance to work and places with friends. But after the summer, I moved across campus from my bf and we would always meet up and eat out at fast food joints. I started gaining weight. By the end of university (dec 2007) I was over 120lbs. I immediately found a job in large corporate office and began the day-to-day office routine of sitting in front of a computer. This coupled with eating out for breakfast (sometimes), lunch, AND dinner (i was always too tired to cook) and I was gaining fast! By this past holiday season, I was at 132lbs. So I had gained 10lbs in year!!! While this doesn't seem like much, on my slight frame, it REALLY shows.

During the holidays, I knew I couldn't continue with this. For the new year, I decided to go on a diet. But I have tried so many things and failed after literally, the first 1-2 days. I'm THAT bad at following and committing to diets. But after googling and finding this forum, I starting thinking Atkins could be the answer! I started eating better about Jan 6th but it wasn't until that weekend that I did my first "Atkins" grocery run. I tried keeping track in a journal but as per usual, got off track the 2nd day in! But since beginning of last week, I've been eating 2 egg omelet using my trusty Nordicware Microwave Omelet maker and a side dish of meat in the morning, some type of meat with sauteed veggies for lunch, and recipe from Linda Sue's website for dinner (this site is seriously a GODSEND!!!).

I'm happy to say that amazingly, I've lost 8lbs in the week and a half of half-assed dieting!! I almost can't believe it because nothing has EVERY worked this fast before but I think I know why it has this time....I eat a hellish amount of carbs and reducing that drastic is reducing my weight drastically whereas the other diets weren't focusing on the one thing I overeat.

But the other important thing is: my apetite has gone down i don't have this serious problem i was having before, especially during the last few pounds i gained....where if i did not eat AS SOON as i felt remotely hungry, i would get dizzy and moody. And....I'm also learning AND enjoying cooking!

I hope to reach my goal weight of 105-110lbs by the summer. Still 14-19 pounds to go. Wish me luck and see u all around the boards!

Anyways, thanks for reading my story!

So glad it's working for you bikegirl! Sounds like you're doing great. If you haven't yet read the book (2002 edition), we highly recommend it around here. You'll learn alot about how to do Atkins the right way long term, adding back in lots more food variety.

I'm also glad to hear you're being realistic about how long it might take to lost the rest. Lots of new folks would want to see that next 14-19 pounds gone within 2 months. Your losses will certainly slow down now, but just keep at it. Clearly your body is responding well.

Btw, I agree that Linda's site is awesome! If you haven't yet, give the Green Chicken Enchilada casserole a try!

            Thanks for the responses everyone!

Adena, I actually do have the book but I'm not very good at following the rules. Lol. I did review it again before bed last night and I think I might take advantage of the print-out "safe" foods list on this board.

Lia, so true! 5lbs is noticeable difference for me! Whereas my bf who's 6'1 gains 10 lbs and I can't tell at ALL.
