Since in the welcome letter Tom said people do this. I guess I will too (he did ask please).
Name is Jenny, 40 years old. Retired EMS Chief and ret. EMT/FF.
I have 3 kids. A 14 y/o, 2 y/o and 1 y/o, all girls. I was pretty fit for most of my life until I had the last two babies and retired 2 weeks before the last baby was born.
The two pregnancies back to back and the major reduction of physical activity that came with the retirement really did a number on me. I wasn't burning the calories I used to and yet I was still eating the way I did when I was majorly active. My highest was 249 and I am only 5'4".
You know that old wives take that muscle turns into fat when you don't use it?? I know that isn't true, but I am beginning to believe in the saying...
So on January 10th I began the low carb eating plan, determined I would not hit 250lbs! I didn't tell my family at first.
SD: 01/10/2009
SW: 249
1st goal: 225
Although most of my life I was 150, I do not have an end weight goal. I had a lot more muscle mass when I was 150 which attributed the higher weight being ok for me. Now that I will not be lifting anymore and have the same mass, I may shoot for a goal weight of 140. Any advice and comments on this will be well received.
I have not been "true" to this diet. On Jan 11th, my family begged me to eat some of my youngest daughter's birthday cake - how could I say no? Luckily I had not had any carbs at all that day - just meat - so the small piece I agreed to was probably under the alloted 20gs.
I was in keto by Monday and had lost 7 lbs by Friday.
Unfortunately Fri was another hurdle - My oldest daughter brought home some chicken fries from Burger King after her first ever date. She said her boyfriend and her wanted to get them for me. She still didn't know I was on a low carb diet. I wasn't gonna eat them - didn't want them - but then she started getting upset and asked why I wasn't eating them. I thanked her and told her I would eat them later (planned on giving them to hubby) and she became so upset (because she had thought of me and bought something for me from her heart) that she started seeping ...so of course I ate a few (3 I think, may have been 2).
Unfortunately those few that I ate combined with the other carbs I had paced throughout the day was enough to mess up my purple bliss. It didn't go trace, but it was a huge drop to pink
I was back in solid purple ketoland by Sunday and as of today I have hit my first 10 lbs of weight loss! 239 never sounded so good! I still have 4 days left of the first two weeks of induction and am excited to learn what my two week weight loss total will be!!
This weekend I am planning on pushing my husband to remove the crib out of the sitting room and extract his things off my treadmill. (I haven't seen it since before I had the last girl). I used to use it all the time, then it became a catch all. Adding exercise will definitely build the muscle and boost the loss even more.
Sorry for the lengthy post, my fingers got chatty.
Thanks for the future support you will undoubtedly give. I will also try to become an asset to this community.
