Hi. I was diagnosed with pre-diabetes in 2007.
I have been trying other diets without much
success to control my blood sugar, and I was
beginning to feel like a total failure to control my body.
I've just started Adkins last Friday. It is going okay,
but I have some challenges I need to find out how to
work through them; especially craving pasta (also 20
grams of carbs is very challenging to achieve). I was
    never much of a meat eater, but I do like veggies;
I wonder if I could substitute Soy protein, Miso,
Tofu (or some other soy/meatless) ?? If anyone has
info on meat substitutes during Induction phase I'd
appreciate any help. I hope to stay in the Induction
for a few months: possibly until April 2009, so I can
once again get a fasting blood sugar below 100.
Also, vitamins - I take all the "B's" minerals and some
herbal (I check the bottles to make sure no sugar)
Dr.Atkins doesn't have much information about
vitamins, minerals, and herbal supplements - unless
he provided this information in another book.
    Tips, ideas, recipes are appreciated.
    Thanks.
    Cecilia

    Re: adkinsnewbie

Do you use the 2002 book? There is a chapter on vitamins in there.
Do you like eggs and fish? You can have some tofu on induction. But not miso - it is very carby with some grains in it. Many people here do use low carb to get their bloodsugar down.

Re: adkinsnewbie still tryn' to get Adkins right.

      Okay, thanks for your input:
I have both "New Diet Revolution"
      and "Atkins Diabetes Revolution"
What high protein drink (no sugar)
      (for Induction)can I have to jump-start
my early mornings (I get up at
      5am) to go to work?
I tried to find someting on GNC
and other websites but all have
      sugar (or prohibited carbs).
I've tried ham & eggs but can I
eat this EVERY day - I'm looking
for a high protein meal that I
      can fix quickly, without cooking.

          Thanks for the encouragement!
I've tried many diets and unfortunately
all of the diets failed - on one diet
I actually GAINED 2 lbs, and my B.S.
          went UP instead of down!
My brother, who is a physician,
          recommended ATKINS because
he was having the similar health
          problems that I am experiencing.
          I'm trying to lose 70 lbs (I weigh 190)
and control my B.S. (get fasting below
          100 mg/dL).
Atkins has for the first time in 2 years
lowered my B.S. my B.S. this morning is 99!
          Yeah! & I'm losing weight!
          Thank God for Dr.Atkins !

            That is great news.
I was going to recommend egg cream for you. I use raw eggs but there is always a chance of salmonella wht them

Here is a basic recipe from sugar free Sheila

            3-oz. cube cream cheese
            ½ cup
Eggbeaters (I like the ones "With Yolk" - use raw
            eggs at your own risk.)
            ¼ cup heavy cream
            1 T DaVinci's - any flavor!
            4 ice cubes

If you do not have DaVinci sweetener you can use splenda or stevia. I make mine with splenda, decaf ice cubes, and vanilla.

Hi Liv! Great recipe. I am definelty going to try that. I was disappointed when I saw that it was sugar free sugar because I can't get that here in Austria but then I saw your variation at the bottom. I am definitely going to try it.
