  • Newbie in week 3

    Hi everyone

Ive never tried Atkins before but after just having a baby and having a hefty 60lbs to loose before the end of may (I think the baby left some luggage inside of me) I thought I would give it a try.

I am active duty military stationed overseas which makes it a little difficult as I can't get the atkins products in our store here. Anyhow I have come to realize that I am a compete carb addict, didn't realize just how many of the foods I ate were so high in carbs.

Im in week 3 and still continuing with induction as Ive only lost 9lbs so far, was expecting a little more. Trying not to get discouraged at this point and have suprised myself at how well I am sticking to the plan. This forum is great!

    Re: Newbie in week 3

All Atkins products I have seen have illegal foods among the ingredients, at least for the induction phase (despite what the Atkins Center claims!). If you want to be successful, you should choose "real" food -- veggies, meat, eggs, cheese -- in induction and then introduce new foods in OWL, as described in the book.

During induction, one typically loses 5-10% of the excess weight. Since you have 60 lbs to lose, 9 pounds mean 15%! That is an amazing loss! People who lose more lbs in induction usually have more to lose. Besides, it took you 9 months to put on the weight, so don't expect them to go away overnight.

Welcome to the board and good luck on Atkins!

Welcome Army Mom! It sounds like you're off to a very good start. The first week or so can be difficult, but then it really does become easier. You'll feel better, less bloated, in control, and best of all...you will lose weight. Drink the water! And when you don't think you can drink another sip, pour yourself a nice, tall glass of water. Welcome to the ADBB -- we're all in this together.
