  • Exercising...

I'm 22 and can't remember being below 180 lbs... always wearing hoodies to hide what i think is fat. Now i know im not the heaviest person on the planet. But diabetes runs in the family and i've tried a LOT of diets, including jenny craig and weight watchers. I did love atkins when i was on it previously, though i didn't exercise, and i think that's the key for me. However...im wondering if anyone can tell me how long it takes for it to become routine? Working out an our a day is so much harder than it sounds. Can anyone tell me how long it took you to make it routine?

    Thankie!

    Re: Exercising...

    Hey,

I work out every day. I have been doing this roughly for the past two weeks, and I think the key thing for me into making it "routine" is not making it optional. when my boyfriend calls me up to ask me to go out, I say yes, but I work out before I go out, not leaving it until after. I come home late from bowling and immediately work out. I usually work out a couple of hours before I go to bed. You simple HAVE to make it routine.

I also use gold star stickers on a calandar to mark myself daily.

      Re: Exercising...

thanks, thats actually really helpful, i was debating whether or not to do it on work days, as i work nights, and it's sort of hard to function as is. But i think if i make myself do it, as you said, it'll be faster getting used to it.

        Re: Exercising...

I agree with Amanda. I finally felt like it was a routine after 14 days. I did not take a day off because one day would become two..three..you get the picture.

        Good luck!!

yeup, and not to discourage you but you have to stick it out, make it as routine and non-optional as eating : because I was going for a month strong once and one day I had a headache..... well. It just wasn't pretty after that. lol. So, take what kind of "asprin" you need, and work out.

Plus I find that if I work out I'm 75% less likely to cheat on my foods.

              Re: Exercising...

Working out is key for me, not only for weight loss, but also for diet. Starting the day with a workout always makes it easier for me to make good food choice. I guess it's because I don't want the workout go to waste (at least in my mind).

                Re: Exercising...

I am over 300 lbs actually about to be under 300 lbs only 3 more lbs to go wohooo!!!

Anyways I go to the gym we have Planet Fitness where I live so I only pay $10 a month for membership and I know some people cant afford the gym or cant see no reason paying for it when they can do it at home but for less then 33 cents per day I have a place I can go anytime from 5am - 10 pm a night 7 days a week except saturday and sunday then its 7pm to 7am - has all the equipment I need to do any exercise program - I actually got a free session with a trainer when I joined - If you can afford a 1 hour session or perhaps even make a bargain when you join that you will sign up if it will also include a 1 hr free session with a trainer - i told her what i wanted to do which was obvious that i needed to loose weight and she tested me on all the machines to see how much i can do on each machine and she devised me a work out for 4 days a week - now i actually go 5 days a week but on the 5th day I just piddle around doing their little 30 minute work out they have set up or messing around in cardio on the bikes or elipitical machine - i do legs twice a week and then my arms twice a week - each day i have a various routines i follow - plus as a stay at home mom it gets me out of the house for an hour by myself - so i pop on my mp3 player grab a handtowel and a bottle of water and out the door i go -

anyways enough rambling about myself - to answer your question - at first i was weirded out like i dont wanna go by myself that i rather go with a friend - the first 3 months we were like clockwork rain or shine we went our 5 days a week - she missed a few days but i still went because i demanded that it by part of my day - my hubbies scheduled changed so it messed us up and then it was we were trying to find ways to fit each others schedule then she finally just said she really didnt need to go anyways as she hadnt lost any weight (imo she had none to loose) - so i told myself im only gonna skip today - today turned into 3 months - dont let friends determine your workout schedule go alone

when i started the gym i was a little sore - couldnt do as much as i wanted to but i have to say within a few days i was getting excited about the gym - and come the second week i was getting adrenaline from going to they gym and working out - and the third week it was just as natural as going to work - as the other poster said someone invites you somewhere say sure but i need to work out first - i would do the same thing yeah i can go after i get back from the gym

I am going back to the gym starting tomorrow - i told my husband i cant have my time going to they gym changing based on his days off so i am going monday - friday as soon as he gets home at 7pm this way i can get it done and then come home and eat dinner after that
