  • Nothing Lost

    Hi there
I am just about on my 15th day of induction. And the reason I say 15th day is that I have not lost 1 lb. I am following the plan to a tee and am a bit confused as to why there are no results? I just turned 50 and want to lose about 25lbs if that info helps at all.
I would love to hear from others who had this happen as well but are now losing and how long does it actually take when it starts out so slow.

    Hi

That sounds a little grim! How about posting a sample menu/food intake inc drinks. Are you in keytosis?

      Re: Nothing Lost

My menu is pretty much the same only with some variations so I don't get bored.
Here is a sample of the foods I have had so far.

      2 eggs with/bacon/or sausage

(These recipes I have only sampled with breakfast when I am craving pancakes or soemthing sweet.
      cream cheese pancakes (atkins recipe)
      cream cheese cupcakes (atkins recipe)

      Lunch
      hamburger w/cheese/lettuce/mao
      Wendys doublestack/w cheese/mao (maybe once a week)
      jello/cool whip

      Dinner
baked chicken, fried steak, chicken wings, pork roast, beef pot roast, baked pork chops
      green beans
      salad w ranch/(real) bacon bits/black olives/boiled egg

      Snacks
      celery/w ranch dressing
      pork rinds
      jello
      Cool Whip
      sugar free popsicles
      Atkins bars

Using butter to fry with, pepper and a dab of salt to season things.

Drinking hot tea in am & pm with half sweet n low and carnation powder cream/but have switched to decaf since I read it may slow down progress. water, diet soda once in a while.

        Re: Nothing Lost

It's very difficult to analyze your menu without knowing quantities.

In any case, Atkins bars, SF popsicles, Cool Whip, jello, diet sodas are not good for induction -- the bars because they have illegal ingredients, the others because they are sweetened with sweeteners not allowed on Atkins. All these are known stallers. Here's a thread I posted a few days ago about Atkins bars during induction:

I'm not sure what sweetener is in the Cool Whip, but if I remember correctly there is high fructose corn syrup in it.

I also think you might be going above the maximum allowed sweetener intake (if you add the sweetener in your snacks) -- 3 packs a day.

You are eating quite a lot of salt. Since you don't have a lot to lose, your "fat loss" might be hidden by water weight gain.

I have no idea what carnation powder cream is... If it's the dry milk kind of thing, then it is not induction legal. You should be using cream instead.

          Welcome
Yes like Georgiana says way too much hidden sugar and artifical sugar there. Got to get rid of those.
          According to Wikipedia
Cool Whip is made of water, corn syrup and high fructose corn syrup, hydrogenated coconut and palm kernel oil (CPKO), sodium caseinate (a milk derivative), vanilla extract, xanthan and guar gums, polysorbate 60 (glycosperse), and beta carotene
          .
Toss the Cool Whip. Way to much sugar in corn syrup and HFCS.
          Use real whipped cream instead.

You're not eating the veggies as outlined in Atkins. Have a look here. That will help

Thank you for the tips. I guess I should not have read the book so quickly and not fully understanding the "details" of hidden sugars. But I swear I read that it was ok to have 2 of the Atkins bars per day. I also thought I saw sf jello on the list as well. As far as the sweeteners I will switch to Splenda which I do have just was using the Sweet N Low up first which I thought was permitted. It has 0 carbs.
As far as the cool whip and popsicles I only had maybe once or twice in the two week period.
But I will make these changes and see what happens.

You may have seen that on the Website but it is run by the company trying to sell the bars and shakes (they call them sexy now). Atkins mention in the book that perhaps in an emergency when you have an option it is better to eat them than something clearly illegal. But that is it. Sweet N Low is OK. You are just eating way too much. Only three sweetener a day and some of us has to reduce it more than that.

Also make sure you are not overdoing the cheese. There is a limit of 3-4 oz

              Drink plenty of water.

                  Re: Nothing Lost

If there's no other legal food around, you are dead hungry and Atkins bars are the only option available, then you can *replace* a meal with an Atkins bar. But they are not meant as regular sweet treats.

Jello is allowed, as long as it's made by you and sweetened with a legal sweetener. The one you buy at the store is usually sweetened with aspartame.

                    Re: Nothing Lost

I only use probably only 1 packet of sweetener per day. Half in the morning and half at night in my tea. I am doing ok with the cheese and eatng the right amounts. The atkins bars are a bit misleading aren't they. And a bit confusing when they are the ones selling them. You would think they would be allowed.

                      Re: Nothing Lost

You see, when we are talking about sweetener, we are not referring only to the sweetener you put in your tea. Jello has sweetener in it; as a rule of thumb, 1 serving of jello should be counted as 1 serving of sweetener. Diet soda has sweetener in it; again, count 1 serving of sweetener in 8 oz. Cool Whip and popsicles -- same thing.

It's an online thingy where you can enter your food and it gives you back calories, carbs, fat, etc. There's a sticky about it here:

and you mentioed FRIED steak... anything fried is usually dipped in batter first, especially chicken or steak, so not a good idea. and watch the buffalo wings...battered??

i can personally attest to atkins bars stalling weight loss.....

No steaks are fried in butter in a pan. Live in snow country otherwise I would grill them. Chicken wings - no batter just dipped in egg.
But no more of those bad bars!!
