  • Back again!

It's easy to go on Atkins. But I find it hard to stick to it. especially with 2 small kids. The time it takes to cook meals and prepare lunches is sometimes just unavailable.

However, I'm here to try again. I had great success in the late 90s with the diet. I lost 75 pounds in about a year, and I felt great. I stayed on the diet for 2 years and then bought a house, and things fell apart....

Anyway, I've been having a great day. I started on the diet at 2:00 PM yesterday, and the first thing I noticed was that pain in my arthritic hip was cut in half in about a hour. Now I don't believe anything can really work that fast, but anything that keeps me from limping around, I'll take.

    Re: Back again!

Welcome back, Andy. If you haven't checked out Atkins since the early 90s, you might want to pick up the 2002 edition of Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution. Things have changed a bit... namely, lots more veggies!

    Good luck to you!

      Re: Back again!

I have the 2002 edition. I've been on the diet twice since my 75 pound loss, but I was never able to stay on it very long.

Sadly, without Dr. Atkins around as the diet's evangelist, the country has slipped from it's low carb ways.

Andy, I found that I could just feed the family the same as I eat but add a carb for them, I have tuna salad, they have tuna sandwich, dinner is a no brainer, I eat the meat and protein, they have the rice, potato, noodle, It just takes a little thought and planning. Welcome back, glad you remembered your old friends

            Re: Back again!

Well, thank God it's Sunday. The Atkins flu from Friday night through all day yesterday SUCKED. I slept too much yesterday, so I was up till 3:00 AM and the kids had me up at 7:30 AM, so I don't expect to really feel good till tomorrow.

At least the killer sinus headache is gone, and I can enjoy my day. Off to plan some induction meals.

The first 2 times I did Atkins, I had no Atkins flu. The last time I was on it, I had the flu for about a half day. I can home from work feeling like cr*p, and went to sleep and slept through the next day. I woke up feeling functional. This one lasted almost 36 hours. That should teach me to stay on the diet.
