  • New and Diabetic Type I

Hi everyone! I am new to the board and am hoping for help with my many questions. I will search first to see if there is a Diabetes forum that might answer some of my more burning questions before I bore everybody else!!

I'm 5'3" and started this diet 1/11/09 at 180 pounds. 4 weeks later I have lost 3 lbs. A bit frustrating, to say the least. I haven't cheated from the induction and my ketones are moderate each time I check. My hubby started at the same time and has lost 10 lbs in 4 weeks.

Can't wait to learn more! I'm not giving up...

Okay, well I THOUGHT I wasn't cheating! I went on the Fitday food calculator with what I ate today and came up with all carbs 1-2 g carb EXCEPT the cashews! I ate about 3 ozs. of cashews and that added up to 25.7 gms of carb! Wow...so my total today was 40.7. Without the cashews, I would have been perfect. I had low blood sugar at lunch and the only thing I could think of to raise it was nuts! It's kindof tough being diabetic on an insulin pump and on low-no carb diet, only because of the low blood sugar risk. I want to start exercising tomorrow (walking) but will have to have glucose tablets with me just in case. I know insulin is a hormone and keeps the weight on but this is ridiculous! Sorry for the rant...thanks for caring.

No nuts on induction (if you are on induction). Eat veggies - plenty of them from the allowed lists.
Here are some threads in our FAQ that will help you.
