Hello all! I've been a diabetic for about 3 years now, haven't managed to control my blood sugars at all. I went for my 3 month check-in last Thursday and was told I'd have to go on insulin. I asked my dr to give me 3 months to figure this out on my own before we talk insulin. So...came across the Dr. Rosedale diet and stuck to it for all of 2 days. I'm sure it would work but I just can't eat that way for the rest of my life, it's just too restrictive. Soooo, more research and here I am. Looking into Atkins, it looks like something I could actually manage to do long term and I'm hopeful that I can turn my diabetes around and lose these 100 extra pounds. We'll see! I'm excited!

Re: Hopeful
Hi, Kenzie -- sounds like you have a great reason to be here and are motivated. That's a great first step! I know of lots of people who have been able to control their diabetes by following Atkins.
I strongly recommend you follow the plan as Dr Atkins intended, in order to give you the variety that will make it possible to eat this way long term. Induction for two weeks, and then slowly adding back in higher carb foods. By the time you get to the top of the carb ladder, the only things you aren't eating are sugar and white flour. I'd say that's leaves you with plenty of great options!
As I'm sure you've seen, there are several forums here devoted to diabetes: Atkins for Health - Atkins Diet.
Best of luck to you!
