  • 4th time trying Atkins again-hope to do things differently!

    Hi Everyone,

I am a 43 year old female who has gone up and down 25 pound most of my last 10 years... I currently weigh 145 and would like to get back to 125. It is thin for me as I am 5'7, but I am one of those people that likes to be really thin-not too thin, just really lean. Anyway, I have tried Atkins 4 or 5 times and the only time I did not give up was the 1st time. I lost 15 pounds on Induction in 3 weeks. I have NEVER lost weight on induction period since then. The first time was 7 years ago and I was dating my now husband, so perhaps being in love, I was doing induction right and just not eating that much! It is frustrating as I can't remember how I did it, and why it is the only time induction worked... Am starting again in hopes to get to OWL in a month-if I religiously follow the rules this time, I hope to start seeing some results and I feel this site will help me. Thanks.

Good luck..it's my 3rd time and I just joined today too....My greatest weight lose was in my first induction - I lost 15 pounds, but the other time it was 7lbs!

Here's to at least 12lbs off in the first 2 weeks!

This my 2nd time on Atkin. I must tell some of you that it sometimes is very slow. Possibly because of age or lack of exercise. The first time I lost 60 lbs in 6 months. This time I have been on it for 4 weeks and have lost 1 lb a week. That will be 52 lbs a year. Stick to the program. I works differently for everyone. I will meet my target again.

        Welcome
I hope it works for you. Just follow the rules in the book. That is the way to do it. No reason to search any more.

I would try upping your excercise, and try to find out if there are some foods that may be hindering you from losing more weight, like cheese, thats one for me thats a no no, if i eat more than 2 ounces a day.

Re: 4th time trying Atkins again-hope to do things differently!

check the links below - make sure you're only eating foods on the acceptable food list, drinking at least 64 ounces of pure water daily (nothing added) - the more water the better to help flush out everything and keep your organs working smoothly. Also find some sort of exercise and start today - no excuses - just do it.

Most people don't loose as much or as quickly the second time around but with determination and doing the things above you will loose if you work the plan 100% and don't try to make this your version of low carb.

Atkins bars and shakes are NOT acceptable during induction – they are made with non-induction ingredients and cause stalling in many people. Just remember - if it’s not on the acceptable food list – it doesn’t go in your mouth! Good luck!

This is from the "Read before you start" thread in the 14 day Induction area:
Drink a minimum of 64 ounces of water each day, including:
              Filtered water
              Mineral water
              Spring water
              Tap water

After your 64 ounces daily you can have the following:
Clear broth/bouillon (not all brands; read the label)
              Club soda
Cream, heavy or light (limit to two to three Tablespoons a day; note carb content)
              Decaffeinated coffee or tea*
Diet soda made with sucralose (Splenda); be sure to count the carbs (may cause a stall in weight loss)
Essence-flavored seltzer (must say "no calories" and should not contain aspartame)
Herb tea (without barley or any fruit sugar added)
Lemon juice or lime juice (note that each contains 2.8 grams carbohydrate per ounce); limit to two to three Tablespoons

*Excessive caffeine may cause unstable blood sugar and should be avoided by those who suspect they are caffeine dependent. Everyone should try to avoid caffeine.

Grain beverages (coffee substitutes) are not allowed. Alcoholic beverages are also not permitted during Induction; those low in carbohydrates are an option, in moderation, in later phases

Re: 4th time trying Atkins again-hope to do things differently!

Water and more exercise are my daily goals. Induction food until I lose another pound or two and then OWL. I have been in ketosis since I started. It goes from trace to moderate. Since I eliminated all the non-induction foods, things are looking up. My blood sugar continues to be great with the low carb menus. Your support is so helpful.
