  • Intro and Some Advice, Please

Hi my name is Stephanie and this is my first time to try Adkins. I am on day 6 of induction, and I have to confess I feel awful. No energy, I can't concentrate and I have a very strange headache. I know I'm suffering from sugar withdrawal, you simply can't go from the amount of sugar I've been eating to this without some consequences. I was just wondering how long this will last. I'm not going to give up because I know I have to break my addiction, but I'm really hurting right now. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

I have a question. Are you cutting cold turkey on caffiene too? That's usually where my headaches come from.

About the no energy thing - I've experienced the same thing, but it usually only lasts one or two days. But sometimes I can feel just absolutely sick to my stomach about it too.

Hang in there! The first week or so is the roughest. After that it's easy as long as you do everything by the book.

If a person eats yummy stuff without counting the carbs, did it have carbs to begin with?

Stephanie, get a dill pickle. Those calm the cravings for most people. Heinz polish dills have 0 carbs. The headaches should only last a couple of days. Take a warm bath. Are you getting enough food and fluids? Normally increasing water intake will help you through the induction flu that you seem to be in. You should have 64 oz/day plus 8 oz per caffinated beverage (during induction this should be 0), and 8 oz per every 10 lbs you need to lose to hit your goal weight. I started at almost a gallon a day. I think the lack of energy in your case could very well be caused by dehydration, lack of food, or sugar withdrawl in that order. The first two you can fix, the last you just have to get through.

Hey lost, 50 pounds is a walk in the park. I'm down 35 since mid December. Just remember, you didn't gain those 50 pounds overnight, so you won't lose them overnight either. You should be getting close to a gallon of water a day. (64 + 40) Hang in there and plan on it taking awhile. You can hang out with us really cool people while you wait.

            Hello all!
I'm on my 3rd week and I have to say I usually weigh myself on Tuesday and I weighed in today and I lost 11 pounds so far (which I'm happy about). I want to lose 45-50 lbs total. I know its going to be a long hard bumpy road to reach my goal but I'm going to do it, I'm going to do it, I'm going to do it!!! LOL!!! We all have to motivate each other because we are all here to do the same thing. Get healthy. (Get Sexy...LOL)

I'm going to try to weight myself once a week.

Thank you everyone, for the encouragement. Yes, Sharon, I've cut out caffeine too. I didn't really drink all that much, but I guess I became addicted, Thank you, I didn't even consider that. I'm absolutely determined to ride this out, I know I can make it. I'm glad I joined this message board!

Re: Intro and Some Advice, Please

Stephanie, if you have a really bad induction flu, the book says you can add another cup of veggies until you get rid of the symptoms. The veggies will give you a little more carbs and, as you can guess, people usually don't binge on things like cucumber or broccoli.

Welcome to the board and good luck!

I never had this problem, but a friend of mine did. After the first week she felt great and continues to feel great. Hang in there!!! Just like a withdrawal from other "drugs"...you'll get passed it!!
