    Re: Overwhelmed

As a completely random thread hijack - Georgiana, could you please start putting all of my foods into dailyplate?? I really feel like i'm too lazy to remember to do this and it would be interesting to know since i *still* don't understand how the scale hates me regardless of what I eat or don't eat, and why it randomly decides to drop/gain. :P

      Re: Overwhelmed

Ok, so I went to the commissary and stopped by the hospital to see a friend's sick baby. Seeing her lying in the hospital helped me to put things in perspective. I am alive and well. Praise God for that.

Yes, I am still frustrated, but I am functioning.

Ok, so when I eat wings, I eat about 10-12 of them. I am going to do better at counting calories. Prior to this, I had counted everything that went into my mouth and stayed within my range, and still gained weight!

So...I am listening to each of you. I really really really want this to work!

This is my plan, please let me know if you think it is good enough.

      Breakfast: flaxseed (2TBSP), 2oz cream, 2splendas, 1/2TBS butter, 1/2 eggbeaters, 1TBSP butter

Lunch: 4oz crab meat (real crab), 1TBSP mayo, 1boiled egg, salad greens

Dinner: 10 fried chicken wings; 1 stalk celery, 4TBSP blue cheese or ranch dressing

Snack: 2oz. cream cheese, 1 egg, 2splenda packs, vanilla extract Or another flaxseed and cream mixture.

What do you think? I have to look for more recipes, but this is my start. I can do this for a few days without freaking out. Do you have any suggestions for me. Here is what sparks says.

      Breakfast:

      Hodgson Mill, Milled Flax Seed, 2 tbsp60cals4carbs5fats3proteinsButter, salted, 1 tbsp102cals0carbs12fats0proteinEgg Beaters Cheese & Chive, 0.5 cup70cals2carbs2fats12proteinHeavy Whipping Cream, 2 fl oz206cals2carbs22fat1proteinBreakfast TOTALS:437 cals 8 carbs 41fats 16 proteins

      Lunch:

      Phillips Crab in can 20oz or 1/3 cup, 4 oz80carbs0c0f20proteinHellmann's , Real Mayonnaise, 1 Tbsp, 1 serving90cals0c10fats0pHard Boiled Egg, 1 large78cal1carb5fats6proteinRomaine Lettuce (salad), 1 cup, shredded8cal 1carb0fat1proteinLunch TOTALS:255cal 2carbs15fats27protein

      Dinner:

      Chicken Wing, fried, 10 unit (yield from 1 lb ready-to-cook chicken)253cals0c11fat36proteinSalad dressing, Wishbone Chunky Blue Cheese, 3 tbsp255cal3carbs26fat2proteinCelery, raw, 1 stalk, large (11"-12" long)10cal2carbs0f0pDinner TOTALS:518cal 5carbs37 fats38 proteins

      Snack:

      Vanilla Extract, 1 tsp12cals 1carb 0f0pCream Cheese, 2 oz198cals2carb20fat4proteinEgg, fresh, 1 large75cal1carbs5fats6proteinSnack TOTALS:284 cals 3cabs25fats11 protein

Now, the only thing on here I question is perhaps the chicken wings, but I can't find anything to dispute the nutritional facts on sparks. This shows me just under 1500 calories daily. I am not sure about the percentag of carbs, fats and protein. I will need help with that one. But this seems to be enough food to eat for me to sustain this for a while. My cravings are back. Not sure what has triggered it for me. I just had a cup of coffee with a tablespoon of cream and some carmel syrup(sugar free) to satisfy my sweet tooth. It did the trick.

My jeans feel tighter actually. It might be all in my head, but it just doesnt compute when the scale doesn't move.

I got my ketostix and I am in ketosis. Its moderate at the end of the night. I am going to check it 2-3 times a day. If I am in ketosis, doesn't that mean I am losing something?

My first experience with Atkins in 1998-99 was so much easier than this. I lost at least 12lbs the first couple of weeks and steadily melted away for weeks until I married. I have no idea why this isn't working now. Before, if i was in ketosis for a week or so, I could lose at least half a dress size. is it hormones? age? SCREAM!! I ate lots of ground beef and onions. I had eggs and bacon (no longer eat any kind of pork) every morning...with gobs of cheese. I had a huge chef salad once a day with cheese, ham or turkey and olives to boot. I remember I would go out with my then fiance and could never finish a meal. This diet made my appetite just disappear. I would drink shakes on occassion, just to make sure I didn't fast. I would have atkins bars (the sugar alcohol was brutal). I don't have access to any of those things here, but you would think this would work right? Am I crazy?

Ok, I can feel myself going in to whiny woman mode, so I will stop now and pray for a better tomorrow.

        Re: Overwhelmed

You mean 10 wings as in 10 whole wings or just drummettes? Because 10 medium wings have about 1000 calories and 90 g of protein! Add to this 100 calories and 22 g of protein from crab, 100 calories from flaxseed, 100 calories from mayo, 150 calories from blue cheese, 70 calories from the egg, 200 calories from heavy cream, etc., etc.... It would put you WAY over 1500 calories! Even more, it will probably give you a very high protein percentage:
        % protein = 100*4*grams_of_protein/calories
Other than calories/protein, those foods look fine.

Not necessarily. If you are in ketosis, it means your body is breaking down stored fat for energy. However, if your caloric intake is too high for example, those fat stores are replenished.

          Re: Overwhelmed

Where are you getting these numbers? I have no idea about the chicken, but the others, I am reading the label. The crab is Phillips real crab in a can. The flaxseed is 60 calories on the label (Hodgson Mills). The mayo is Hellman's 90 cal and so on, with the exception of the egg and cream because there are no labels. The label would not be wrong to that degree???

              Re: Overwhelmed

um. I have no idea what is involving in smothering the wings in butter and hotsauce, but everything else that you have listed calculates out to 2,082 calories. Butter is about 100cal/Tblspoon if I remember correctly...

10 Fried Chicken wings turned up as 750calories in Dailyplate, and this was one of the lower calorie counts for them....

The bright side, is that with the butter sauce, you'd have fantastic percentages since without it your percentages are about 65% fat, 32% protein, and 3 percent carbs.

                Re: Overwhelmed

No, the label is right. I'm taking the calories for the chicken wings from Fitday. If you eat only the upper part, then the calories are cut to about half. The others were off the top of my head, which is why 80 or 90 calories are 100. The calories in flax might be off in Fitday, it also depends whether you count two tbsp of seeds or two tbsp of meal.

Anyway.... So. If you eat only the upper part, you're fine with the calories. I'm not sure about the percentages you get (I'm just too lazy to enter them in Fitday right now :P), but that menu seems to have enough fat.

I didn't spot something the first time... You are allowed only 3 servings of sweetener per day; your menu has 4. I've also seen people on this board that are stalled by sweeteners, so you might want to avoid eating 3 servings every day.

Make sure the vanilla extract has no sugar among the ingredients.

I assume the crab has citric acid as an ingredient. That is okay, but make sure it doesn't have anything that is not legal.

I guess that's about it. The food looks fine, you track it, drink your water, exercise... I think you should be fine.

                  Re: Overwhelmed

I am confused. Where are these amounts coming from? Are the nutritional facts wrong on the items I purchase? If that is the case, why have a law that requires the information? A TBSP of butter is 102cal and it is calculated as such. just not sure where you got the extra 500 cals from unless its all in the chicken. Ok, so I will get rid of the butter, or at least half of it. I won't put a sauce on the chicken at all. I don't have a clue where else to cut calories and be able to maintain some amount of satisfaction.

Ok, I am going to look for other recipes now. Its nearly 1am and my head is spinning. I need to be sure of what I will eat tomorrow or it will be a disaster.

                    Re: Overwhelmed

I hate seeing/touching raw meat, but here it goes.

If you eat 10 of these, fried, they add to 700-1200 calories, depending on their size.

If you eat 10 of these, fried, then you only have around 500 (it could be 400 or 600).

                      Re: Overwhelmed

Um. I am not understanding how you're confused. The chicken is obviously the difference... I found about 500cal difference. I think everything else was about the same.

I feel like I have to ask - are you eating until you're satisfied, or eating until you are full? I find that I will try to finish a meal if it is there, or if I eat quickly. I actually only need about 5 wings to be almost full, but if I eat quickly... I can eat many more and not realize that I should have stopped much earlier.

                      OMG. That's really disgusting, G.

                        Re: Overwhelmed

It's flaxmeal. I used to use Fit Day back in the late 1990s/early 2000s, but found a lot of discrepancies. I use sparkpeople or I google search nutrition for a particular food.

When you say the upper part, are you referring to drummette part with one bone or the part with 2 bones?

Regarding the sweetners, OMG. I have to give that up too? Heavy sigh. Ok, I will take it out of my snack and try to cut it ot 2 packets per day. The extract is pure.

The label doesn't show anything in the ingredients that aren't ok with the crab.

Thanks for all of your help. I had no idea that I couldn't trust the labels. I know that they have hidden carbs sometimes, but the rest of it I thought was really close to being accurate. I will go to fit day for all of my chicken values. What about www.caloriesperhour.com? This is great site too.

For any food, the label is more reliable that what is written online. The values you find online are averages between different brands of the same food.

I am not confused anymore. I get it. I will cut up the wings and eat the drummette part so that my calorie count is correct. thanks for the picture...worth a thousand words!! lol

I am an emotional eater. I eat according to my life. If I am fighting with my husband, disappointed in my kids. Normally I resort to high carb, high salt, high sugar things when I am out of control. I eat until I am full and sleepy because it numbs my feelings just like a drug or alcohol does. However, I have been able to control my emotional eating by taking a break before doing my "drug" and praying or walking or reading something. It usually works. I leave it alone for a while and the desire to eat goes away. It is necesary though that I stay fed. If I am hungary it is not as easy to control. I have done a really good job of it for some time now though. I have learned to face the issue that I want to hide from...my husband is surprised...I don't just grin and bear it anymore...I let him have it. I used to be such a passive agressive person. Now I am much more...agressive than passive, but it is good for my self value. LOL..I sound like a shrink!

Ok, I have got to get some sleep!
