  • Newbie here!!

Hello everyone!! I was supposed to be starting Atkins yesterday, then again today but I keep messing up so I will try again tomorrow 2/17/09. Third times the charm, right? I am new to the whole forum thing, but not to the Atkins approach. I have read the book twice, and have lost 35lbs in the past but for some reason I am having a hard time staying motivated and on program this time around. I figured that maybe joining the forum will help me get moving towards a healthier me.

    Re: Newbie here!!

I guarantee that if you pre-plan and prepare your meals and snacks; carry them around in a little cooler with you, YOU WILL MAKE IT THROUGH A DAY! YOu will probably feel like a dork carrying this thing around with you, but it works. When you feel tempted to eat something not appropriate, just reach in your bag of goodies and pull something out. One day will turn into 4, and will turn into 10 and so on. THe first week is tough then gets easier for most. YOu have to retrain yourself.... your judgement cannot be trusted.... YET. If you carry your meals with you EVERYWHERE for the next few days and it still does not work, you can come back and call me a big fat liar. I am positive that it is going to work. Go to Wal Mart tonight and buy tupperware and a cooler. THen clear all of the naughty stuff out of your cupboards. You wil succeed but you have to change your pattern of behavior. Sorry for being so long winded. I get this way sometimes. Good luck!

              Re: Newbie here!!

Hey AngelBaby -- you are exactly where you need to be to find success! This site is the best friend to all Atkins people. I've never seen such welcoming people as there are here. We are all working toward the same goal - losing weight, so we are all in the same boat everyday. Use this board to your advantage -- the more you come here and read and ask questions the better you'll do.

Rob is right about pre-planning being key...what I did to begin with was sit down after dinner and plan my next days food -- and I didn't go over what I put on the paper....I had 1 day recently where I had to go to the ER at the spur of the moment and didn't have a plan....not a good thing, but I got back on track the next day and haven't looked back. If you fail, get back up and get going - just don't set yourself up to fail over and over by not planning!

Exercise will help you loose weight and firm up quickly. There are several challenges here you can sign up for, they only take a couple minutes a day and don't require a gym membership. If nothing else, park further from the door or get off the bus 1 stop before where you usually do and walk the difference .... it all counts as exercise and you'll feel so much better in a few days of starting. Don't forget to drink plenty of water, that will flush everything out of your system and hydrate your skin to make you look better. It doesn't have to be fancy bottled water -- tap water works just as well and a plastic or glass container is your preference. When I go on walks I take a little bottle of water in each hand -- I don't drink them (I sip a few times when I'm walking) - I use them as weights in my hands - a little more resistance to help firm my arms as I walk.

You'll do fine, ask questions when you have them, read the book over and over until you know how to do this WOE and take this one day at a time. Just remember, your weight didn't come on overnight so it won't come off overnight. You are worth doing this the right way - just make sure you are following the rules.

              Good luck on your journey!!

It's not going very good......I have to start all over again. As you can see I have not been on the site in some time, but I am back and I guess that's a start. Thanks for the words of encouragement. I will keep them in mind as I start on my journey once more to a more healthier me.
