  • Help - Newbie Australian

Hello, firstly this forum is excellent.... It has answered so many of my questions...

Forgive me, if this sounds bizarre, we use the metric system here... Basically, I am female, near/around 6ft, starting weight was 172 pounds.

On Day 8 of induction, I had only lost 4 pounds. But then I weighed myself on Day 10 (today) and I am 161 pounds! 7 pounds in 2 days... Is this right? I don't really have that much to lose so I assumed it would take me a bit longer to drop 11 pounds? I am concerned when I get off induction, it will just come straight back on.

Also, I don't eat any dairy, so I have been having a lot of herbal teas (no caffeine, of course). Today I had a cup of normal tea with soy milk, and my stomach has bloated up. Am I right in deducing that soy milk is definitely not the way to go? Are there any other "milk" alternatives that can be suggested.

      Welcome, tbirdy!

I don't think there is any "normal" progression of weight loss on Atkins. But 7 pounds in 2 days is not completely unheard of. It's probably your system flushing out excess water.

Also, if you go back to your regular high carbohydrate way of eating after induction, yes, the weight will probably bound right back on. That's why Atkins has the OWL (ongoing weight loss) and maintenance phases so we can learn how many carbohydrates (of what kind) our bodies can tolerate without gaining. Eventually you can end up eating almost anything... but you have to do it in the right progression.

I drink cream in my coffee, so don't have an induction-friendly substitute idea for you.

Anyway, best of luck to you!
