  • Hey Y'all

Well, I've tried it all. This will be my 3rd time on Atkin's... it's the only one that's ever worked for me. You'd think I'd learn by now.

I had my last child one year ago and I'm finished having children. It's time to lose the weight for good. I need to lose about 50lbs, but I'd be happy with 30.

I'm on day 3 of Atkin's and have been having ketones since yesterday afternoon!!! 36 hours to get into ketosis.

I go to the gym to do weight exercises 3 times or more a week, and I work out 5 days a week on the elliptical. I did 30 minutes the other day, but have only given it 20 minutes for the last few times. I pushed to hard and got sore from it.

I'm still learning about this site and hope that it can be a wonderful tool for me. I learned of it from sugarfreesheila.com (that's not me, though we share the same name).

    Peace

    Welcome SheilaMarie.
Ketosis already!!! That was quick. Good for you. Hope you are drinking plenty of water to go with it.
Ellipticals - hard stuff. I really have respect for people who can do that for a while.

I think that many of us had to learn the hard way that this is the only diet that really works for us!

So you're in good company. Looking forward to watching your progress!

        Re: Hey Y'all

        Liv and Sunny One,

        Thank you for the welcome.

Liv, I aim at drinking 2 quarts, or 8 cups of fluids a day. I drink water, mostly, but because I live inside city limits, I don't drink water from my tap. I prefer to drive out to my grandmother's house and get a couple gallons of her well-water.

I make it a point to drink 1-8oz cup of water, or no-calorie, no caffiene, no-sugar drink (not a soda, usually decaf tea) each hour, on the hour. Like, now, for instance. It's 10 minutes till 9:00am and at 9, I will head into the kitchen and drink my sugar free lemonade, 8 ozs. I will also take my vitamins.

I'm dedicated, once I get through into ketosis.

Again, I thank you all for the support. BTW... I need to update my ticker (how exciting) - I've lost 3 pounds now!! Whooooo hooooooo!!!

So does your sugar free lemonade contain artifical sugar. If it does it will not count as the 64 oz of clean water you need on this diet to flush those ketones. Also remember to limit your artificial sugar intake to a maximum of three servings a day.
Congratulations on the pounds. That is wonderful.

Sheila, congratulations on the 3 pounds! Feels wonderful, doesn't it?

I used to buy my drinking water until we moved out to the country. We have a 300' deep well drilled through solid white quartz and green granite. It is the best tasting water I have ever had. So I know what you mean about going to your grandma's for water!

I think I found out my secret to quick ketosis. I cook with coconut oil. It's the only safe fat to cook with at high temperatures. I use it for eggs, mostly, but I also fry cheese in it (as a snack).

Evidently, the coconut oil is a MCT (medium chain triglyceride) and it has all types of benefits, one being an increase in ketones. It gives me energy like I haven't had since I was a cheerleader in school!! -and with 4 kids and a husband, I need all the energy I can get-

I googled "ketogenic diet healthy fats" and found out about it. Coconut oil was listed at the top. It's a little high-priced, $7 for a jar of solid fat (looks like Crisco), but cooking with it is fabulous because it doesn't burn or taste at all.

Well, keep up the good work. Glad to speak with you!!

I switched to coconut oil, too, when I read that it helps boost thyroid performance.

Mine's borderline, so my metabolism is pretty slow!
