Hi there, I started Atkins today. I may find Induction difficult as I am a vegetarian so I may get fed up with eating eggs and cheese. We'll see though. Cheryl

Re: New today
Welcome Cheryl and congratulations on your first post! I can completely relate to being a vegetarian on Atkins. It is not easy. I am no longer a vegetarian, but I was for a number of years. Make sure to eat all your veggies.
149.8/no weigh/ 119

1st goal: 139 (earlier weight)
what the rungs mean to me:
rung 1 - more veggies
rung 2 - dairy (some milk in coffee)
rung 3 - seeds, nuts (mostly sprinkled on salads)
rung 4 - berries, melon
rung 5 - wine -
rung 6 - beans, hummus
rung 7 - other fruits
rung 8 - carrots/ potatoes (nah, prolly not)
rung 9 - whole grains (fresh Dutch breads...)
Major Goal - 128 lbs/ healthy range
(on to pre-maintenance)

Re: New today
Welcome, Cherry!
Yes, doing Atkins as a vegetarian can be a real challenge.
Here's what Dr. Atkins said about it:
That being said, there is an article somewhere on this site (maybe under FAQ's) where a vegetarian wrote that she did great on Atkins. If you are a strict vegetarian, you really can't do the induction phase. (The three later phases could be managed but the food selections on a regimen that restricts carbohydrate and simultaneously excludes animal foods are limited.) In general I've found that a person who will not eat any animal foods will not do Atkins permanently. They find it too boring. But if you are willing to eat fish and chicken, plus eggs and cheese, you can certainly do Atkins without eating any red meat.
So it will be more difficult for you, but here's wishing you the best of luck!
