First, welcome to ADBB!! You've come to the right place for the support it sounds like you need.

YES, the headaches and tiredness ARE indeed normal -- we call this the "Induction Flu" and it's a GOOD thing. It means your body is going through the stage of ridding itself of your carb addictions. Hang in there. It lasts for 3-5 days and once you get to the other side, your cravings will start to disappear, your energy will go up, and you'll start feeling great.

The amount of weight you lose varies from person to person. I don't think anyone loses 3-6 lbs consistently week after week, to be honest. But every individual is different -- and it depends on the amount you exercise, your vitamin supplements, your heredity, your metabolism, your support system, your stress level, etc. But if you follow Dr. Atkins' instructions carefully, drink your water, exercise and don't cheat -- the amount of weight you lose will be exactly right for you.

YES, it is possible not to cheat. I've been on Atkins since 01/24/04. The only "cheat" I can think of is about 4 months ago when I had some low carb bread and found it was was a trigger food and I ate more than I should have. I quickly got the bread out of the house, and now I'm fine. It's not difficult to not cheat. You simply focus on all the great foods you CAN have and forget about the foods you can't have. Also, keep in mind that when you get to the higher levels (OWL, pre-Maintenance, Maintenance), you will be able to slowly introduce most foods back into your diet!

The Atkins diet is the most worthwhile, healthy thing I have ever done for myself. When I'm faced with a cheat, I simply stop and think about how far I've come and if I want to risk stirring up old addictions (to carbs and sugar) and gain the weight back. It's an easy question to answer, believe me.

Keep posting. Ask questions when you need to. Read through the FAQ forum because we do things here "by the book" -- a little different than the Atkins.com web site, but exactly as Dr. Atkins intended. You can do this. Just get through the next few days and you'll be amazed at how great you feel!!!

      Hello Talla :wave
      Welcome to ha

As Joan told you, every person loses weight in their own time - some fast some slowly depending on personal body chemistry, how much percentage of their weight they need to lose (I needed to lose at least 50% of my start weight for example) how much they exercise, how strictly they stick to the rules etc, etc.

Although it gives us a nice buzz to lose several pounds a week (which you could well do the first few weeks if you have been eating a lot of carbs and junk food before starting) it is really better for your body to lose slowly.

This gives your skin time to shrink along with you - no-one wants to look like a shar-pei dog do they - and allows you to retrain your appetite so when you reach goal you will know how to eat to stay at goal for the rest of your life.

If you think of Atkins as merely a fast way to lose weight and return to your old less healthy diet after reaching goal and stop exercising you might well find that in a year or so you have to do it all over again :yikes
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

:wave Everyone here gave you fantastic advice. Please listen to them, as we want you to succeed and are willing to give you any support you need to do it.

As for the question "Is it possible to do this WOE and not cheat?" YES, it is very possible. I'm not bragging, but I've never cheated. On the first page of my journal, I wrote a committment to myself that I'd do exactly what Dr. Atkins advised. I was so miserable with myself and unhappy with my weight.

The secret is to PLAN. Make sure there are no CHEAT foods available for you to eat. Always take EMERGENCY foods with you whenever you leave the house. I keep tuna packets, packets of mayo, boiled eggs and/or cut veggies (celery, green pepper) with me.

Another secret is Exercise. It helps your metabolism and it mentally keeps your spirits up. I find that I look forward to my daily work-outs because it is a time when I can sort out things on my mind and make me feel good.

Best wishes!! If you need help, just ask. Everyone here is always willing to assist.
