    Hi Everyone

I haven't a lot of weight to lose and have slowly gained, due to getting a sedentary job/middle age spread/ loving my bread, whatever...

I have spend over 6 months trying to shift 1lb of weight, and something made me think of Atkins. A few years ago, I had a look at this but there was a lot of bad press and I kind of dismissed it (although when my partner and I stopped eating sugar and carbs we lost weight ha ha!).

So this time I got the book again and am on chapter 6.

In the meantime, a week ago I stopped eating obvious carbs and started eating more protein. I am a cheese lover (cheese is my chocolate) and when eating 'sensibly' I lost no weight and felt really hungry most of the time! I recognise myself as type A in chapter 4 (oh how dr Atkins knows us). Anyway I hit the scales and I lost 2lbs! Believe me, this is a major result. Not only that I am loving haivng bacon, eggs, ham cheese, little chunks of chicken and lovely organic veg. So now I found you guys! And here was me thinking that Atkins had been relegated to the diets of the nineties! What a lovely surprise!
Wishing you all well on your new lifestyles!! (can't wait to start chucking out my baggy old clothes x) By the way, go myself a pedometer too to help up my walking

    Re: easing into it

Welcome to the board and congratulations for the 2 lbs lost!

Did you decide when you are going to start the actual induction? I am not sure what exactly you are eating at the moment, but it gets much easier once you are in ketosis (which is the main purpose of induction).

    See you around the board!

well I haven't got to that bit of the book yet - still ploughing through from start to finish. Breakfast was grilled tomato, grilled haloumi cheese, then chicken and bacon salad for lunch and dinner will be chilli with veggies. Snacks are ham and cheese and a bit of pate. I am still getting the hang of this way of eating, so I am glad I found this forum - just need to time get perusing!

Welcome Anna B, glad you found us and joined. Your menu sounds fine, We limit our veggies to 2-3 cups and our cheese to 3-4 oz.
Induction is pretty simple, which is why I love Atkins

          Re: easing into it

annab, you will have a much greater chance of success since you are reading the book and understand all the why's and how's of how it works.

If your chili has beans or starch in it, it's not induction-legal, but you will find that out when you get to the acceptable foods list!

I'm looking forward to following your long-term success because you are building on a firm foundation!

          Welcome and good luck!

Welcome to the board, Anna! You already have a good start and reading the book will be invaluable to you for a clean induction phase. Reading the 'stickies' here on the board and maybe joining a challenge or two will also help you on your way to a new you!

Good luck and keep us posted on your progress!
