  • Hello everyone

    My name is Mike.

I am a long-time follower and believer of the Atkins lifestyle. Had great success doing Atkins 5 years ago. I loved the way I ate and the way I felt. I also was in good health...my cholesterol, which was normally over 200 dropped down to 142 after about a month.
Long story short, I drifted off the diet, went back on, drifted off, went back on, basically since then. But now I am back. Whatever mental switch that has been off for the past 5 years has finally been switched back on. I am in it...in that zone, have been faithfully since the beginning of February.
I want to say hi and just say how excited I am to be back in the Atkins saddle and to be around you guys and all your useful knowledge.
I recently just turned 30 and it kinda shocked me back into action. I do not want to be overweight in my 30's. I also was recently told by my doctor that my BP is borderline high (130/90, but it runs in the family) and he wants me to be on BP meds. I refused and he gave me 3 months to see if diet and exercise will work.
Apart from that, the past few months I have felt a real spiritual and mental growth. I have been studying Buddhism, meditating and going to Yoga classes religiously. I just feel that I am starting to become the best version of myself that I can be and I feel that this way of eating in only another extension of that growth.

So, here I am...hopeful and excited and looking forward to sharing with you all.

    Hope everyone is well!

    Re: Hello everyone

    Greetings, Mike

I loved reading your introduction! I have a feeling that we are going to see great things from you.

I, too, drifted away from the Atkins lifestyle after losing some weight (see my stats in my siggie). I know what you mean about your "switch" being turned on again - I experienced the same thing. And I want to assure you that this can be the best attempt yet!

I'm looking forward to witnessing your transformation. Good luck!

Isn't it wonderful when your brain clicks that little mental switch on? Makes it easy and enjoyable to follow this WOE!

              Thanks guys =)

I've come to realize it's all about that "switch." Your mind has to be ready. And I've been on and off the diet for the past 5 years but I wasn't in that "zone" so I constantly went on and off. But I am back and I know it. It's an intuitive feeling.

Mitzi, I'm glad I made your day =)

                Re: Hello everyone

                Welcome to the board Mike!

It sounds like you are already well on your way because the mental aspect of weight loss cannot be minimized. One of the most important things I've learned through the years is in Buddha's Noble Truths: That 'life is suffering'. But once you truly accept the fact that life is supposed to be hard, it becomes less difficult because you stop fighting it. It also applies to weight loss. When we accept that the fat isn't going to just fall off, when we learn to take our time and live our lives in the moment, this way of life becomes easier.

So good luck to you and keep us posted on your progress.
