  • Im jusy wondering.

    I’m just wondering.

Is coffee allowed to drink when you’re on low carb diet? No sugar and milk of course.

And does 1 plate of rice going to add some pounds directly when you consume it during low carb diet ?

You haven't read the book or the FAQs, have you?

You really do need to read them.

I cannot advise you about a "low carb diet", but only about Atkins.

Coffee first. Caffeine destabilizes one's blood sugar levels. Initially, it will cause a drop in blood sugar, which is what leads to hunger or cravings. Simultaneously, caffeine also stimulates the central nervous system, thus triggering the release of stress hormones. After this triggering, blood sugar levels will return to normal. The strength of the cravings, their duration and one's ability to resist them (although personally I believe it is better to avoid them all together), is one of those YMMV (= Your Mileage May Vary) things.

To go by the book and be on the safe side, you should avoid caffeine during the first two weeks of induction. Instead, you can have decaf and replace milk with cream. Once you reach OWL, you can try adding it back and see if it affects your weight loss.

Coffee or diet sodas, whether decaf or not, may also cause a stall in one's weight loss just like any other food/drink. Again, YMMV.

Rice. You posted in the "Introduce Yourself" forum, so I assume you are just starting Atkins. Rice is not allowed during Induction and it will probably throw you out of ketosis. If you want to do Atkins correctly, you should simply not have rice on Induction. Some people will gain weigh by the next morning, some won't. No one can say what will happen if you eat a plate of rice.

Welcome to the board Lunargod! Your best bet is to do induction by the book. You do have the book, don't you? If not, you should get it because it explains everything about the diet and will be a tremendous source of inspiration. We use the 2002 version here on the board. Good luck!

Welcome Lunargod! Nice that you've joined us here!
I agree with the advice you've been given. Following the plan to the letter will guarantee success. It's well worth reading the book. DANDR (Dr Atkin's New Diet Revolution 2002 edition) is the one you want and the one this board follows. It was the last one that Dr A wrote in its entirety before his death, so hasn't had other people messing around with it.

              Happy losing!
