  • Golden Shot, Schmolden Schmot

    Hi everyone!

I'm a labrat from Baton Rouge, and enough is enough. At work and in my personal life, I'm awash in a major health movement. I've been overweight (to varying degrees) since I was 16-ish, and I'm really tired of dealing with the excess emotional and physical baggage. I also recently registered at 3FC and set up a blog there, but this board seems to have a great deal more traffic.

I've been on Atkins for a mere 2 days, but I've already lost 3 pounds, so I'll take it! I'm using DANDR edition 1992 (from Goodwill), which I didn't do the first time I tried Atkins. Also, I had all the stupid little Russel Stover's low-carb candies I could get my grubby mitts on, so that's out too. The first time, I got frustrated by my stymied progress (especially in comparison to other family members). Only recently did I realize I went about it all wrong, and this time I'm giving it a go for real.

This community looks extremely informed and friendly, so I can't wait to get to know you all!

    WELCOME!

I used to eat a lot of the Russell Stover SF, too. I couldn't lose weight while eating them but I could maintain.

Anyway, recently I've been reading that the sugar alcohol (maltitol) that is used to sweeten them is almost as high on the glycemic index as sugar itself. So, no more of them for me. I'll just eat the real candy if I can't help myself!!

Welcome back to this WOE. You may want to check out the STAC group, because you qualify for that. People there are even smarter and better looking. Hope to see you at roll call.

Yeah, it's funny how the low-carb industry sprang up then cannibalized itself in the name of profits. Everyone bought up all the Atkins-brand and sugar-free stuff they could, then got jaded at stalling on weight loss. Reading the book (and having a biologist background), it's obvious that the diet in its purest form works. Just people want to take shortcuts, and certain companies were more than happy to exploit that.

Haha, nice one. And yeah, I think I'll go bum around the STAC subforum a bit.
