  • About time

Hello, I am 25 and for the last year everyday i have said, I will start a diet tomorrow. Saying this to myself has actually made me eat more than usualthinking I can eat whatever I want because tomorrow I'm starting.

    So finally I'm starting today!

I have not read the Akins book but looked up a lot online. I'm starting then I'm going to get the book, I just want to get started. Today I am 190lbs and my goal is 135-140lbs. I am 5-5, My one year wedding anniversary is in 2 months and a few weeks and I would like to loose a littel by then.

ANY helpful hints would be awsome especially since I dont have the book yet. My husband is laid off and we cant afford to buy it yet.

I think this site is amazing, especially since you dont have the book. I would go through all past post to present, or at least skim through them, and go to the induction Sticky's. Its very informative and useful information! Welcome to the board!

Welcome to the board Goody! Go to the Atkins Phases forum for instructions on how to do the diet right.

You will still need the book though because it tells you how the diet works and is a great motivator. Keep us posted on your progress, also check out the recipe forum for some tasty induction friendly food.

        Welcome, Goody!

You can always try your local library, to see if you can obtain a copy of the 2002 version of Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution. That is the book that this board is based around, and our advice is based upon. It is the last book written by Dr. Atkins... the information on the Atkins website differs in some ways, from the book. They are a company pushing convenience products, and the majority of us who have tried those products have found that they can stall weight loss. Also, their plan is not as stringent about climbing the rungs in a specific order, and does not work as well for everyone. In the mean time, I would start by reading this link: (If you are NEW, READ THIS!)http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/spotlight-introduce-yourself/60133-if-you-new-read.html

Also, at the top of each of the forums, there are things called "stickies". These are posts that contain good information, and have been "stuck" at the top of the forums for all to read. At the top of the OWL forum, there are some stickies that will explain the carbohydrate ladder we follow when doing the 2002 version of Atkins. After a clean 2 week Induction, it is SO important to move onto OWL and start adding carbs back... I didn't follow OWL strictly on my first time on Atkins, and I never reached my goal weight and couldn't maintain the weight that I did lose. On this round of Atkins, I have followed the plan as intended by Dr. Atkins, and it really did work better. OWL stands for "Ongoing Weight Loss", and it is the phase that most of us lose most of our weight in.

        Good luck!
