  • Something tells me... (Intro)

That I will have nothing in common with most of you on the BB (besides the diet, of course). I suck royally at intros but I will do my best.

I am a 26 yr old guy, I was born and raised in New Orleans, spent 5 1/2 years on an island off the coast of Florida before moving to SE Washington.

I became disabled in 2004 after being shot in the chest (please don't ask details, it is still a sore subject). I have been denying anything being wrong with me since I was shot but have finally been forced physically into the realization that I can not work. To be quite honest, it kills me to know I will probably never work again.

My story is pretty simple... I was raised in an abusive home and when I was 14, I had enough and left (I've literally been on my own ever since), after the years of h3ll I went through, I made up my mind that NO ONE would ever have that kind of control over me again. To make a very long story short, I started taking steroids at 16 and by the time I was shot, I weighed almost 400 lbs of muscle. After being shot, my body went to h3ll from not being able to work out anymore and eating from depression.

I have heard about the low carb diets for awhile now and it makes sense - carbs = insulin and that's not good. I am finally taking some responsibility and doing something about my weight.

I have a tendency to come off as a prick (not really denying it), but I am the most loyal person you will ever meet. I wish everyone the best and I will keep everyone posted on my progress (don't know how much I weigh, scales are not too friendly to guys as big as me, but I have a camera).

I start my induction the first week of April '09

Na - it's no sweat, all my life experiences have made me stronger. I realize now I was a self-centered, judgmental moron and this is the humbling of meh.

I look forward to keeping in touch with a support system out here and hope maybe I can be helpful in some way.

Thanks Jace - maybe soon I won't have to look like a bowl of J-E-L-L-O(R) (TM) when I watch Metalocalypse As soon as I'm done feeling like a noob sandwich, I'll be posting some questions - one in particular regarding egg consumption. I was thinking about renaming the diet to the "Dr Atkins Revolutionary Eggfart Approach" lol.

Welcome to the board, kennewickrockerguy! I'm glad you joined us.

This diet is awesome and I'm sure you will see results and feel a lot better once you get started. Don't worry about the eggs, they aren't that bad.

Do you have the 2002 version of the Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution? It's the one we use here on the board.

So drink your water, read the stickies and let us know how you're doing. Good luck!

                  Hey Blue,

No, I don't have a copy of the book yet. I was trying to download it off of Limewire but haven't found it yet. Guess I need to hit up Amazon. Is their a thread here of people selling their books? I'd rather keep things within the B-Board - you know continuing support, rather than buy from some random person on ebay or amazon.

                  Thanks,

                    Glad you found us.

It's no secret that eating low carb is a challenge, but from your life experiences, challenges are motivators. Remember to use that motivation to get to your goal. Best wishes!

                    Cheers!

You could try half.com and probably get a very slightly used copy for .75 or $1.00 (probably a couple/three bucks in shipping, though).

hello!! I just wanted to join in with everyone in welcoming you to the board.
You asked about getting the book on amazon but keeping it within the board - at the very top of the addb boards there's a link to "atkins diet store" and that takes you to the ADDB amazon link. or just click here

                          good luck!!!

also - just in case you are interested in learning about the actual history of low-carb and why it IS healthy for you - one book that I've been trying to get through myself is "Good Calories Bad Calories" by Gary Taubes. From what I hear it's like the "low-carb bible" practically (just a little hard for me to find time to read it).

Also - the DVD "FatHead" by Tom Naughton - very enlightening and he has interviews with many low-carb doctors and it really explains a LOT.

                          good luck and welcome!!!
