  • Trying to get motivated again

Hi everyone- this is the first bulletin board I think I have ever joined. All of you inspire me.

friday was my birthday, and a few friends that I hadn't seen in awhile called and were in town and wanted to take me out for dinner. I didn't want them to see me because I have gained 75 pounds, and gone from a BMI of 22 to 32, over the course of three years. I don't want to go out anymore and have been discouraged. All my free time used to revolve around sports, and now I can't even go for a long walk because of the joint problems caused by the weight. In my 40s I weighed between 120- 130, but had 2 blips where I went to 140 and another to 150, but i used Atkins to lose it. Before that I had never had a problem with weight gain although I had to watch my weight constantly and it took lots of motivation.

Now I seemed to have lost the motivation...due to major disappointments in my work and personal life... I can't seem to get back on track....I give up easily. I am sure all of you share many of these issues and am hoping that the connections and ideas will help focus and motivate me.

Re: Trying to get motivated again

Cate, try it for two weeks. Get past the discomfort of induction and see how much you have lost and how much better you feel.

If you can bite the bullet and do that, I think your motivation problems will be well on the way to being cured.

And believe me, you are not alone in not wanting friends who haven't seen you in a while to see you at your heaviest.

    But you can change that!

    So glad you joined us.

Re: Trying to get motivated again

Don't wait for the motivativation to come and find you! Go ahead and start and go out looking for the motivation. If you re-read your own post, you have plenty of motivation right there. I promise you will feel better and will have more motivation if you just start and take it just one day at a time. Don't look at the big picture. You can do anything for 24 hours. Keep coming here for support and motivation.
People who say it can't be done, should not interrupt those doing it.

Cate -- Happy Birthday a few days late and welcome to ADBB! This is the best place you can be to achieve your goals. Remember, we are all here for the same purpose, we are all overweight (or have been overweight and are now at our goal weight) and we understand what you are going through. There is nothing to be ashamed of here, you are among friends.

There are challenges to join, pictures to look at, success stories to inspire and friends to meet. Good luck on your journey. If you need to talk or have questions feel free to ask!

Welcome to the board! Motivation can be tough. We all understand that. Have you checked out the before and after pics and some of the success stories? The Celebration Forum is a great place to hang out and just read. When you share in the success of others, it's easier to see your own dreams as well. Come back and post soon!
