  • Reinventing me...

    Hi All,
It has been a very long time with my extra weight. I am about 50 lbs over weight and considered "obese" by bmi standards. I am somewhat active but not the athletic type. 2 weekends ago I wanted to post a picture of myself on Facebook, when I found a picture of me taken 2 years ago and I almost cried. I don't like the way I look(ed), I don't like the way I feel tired and ready for bed all the time. I noticed some friends doing very well with their battle and they encouraged me to do Atkins. When I started to read the book, and identified I was consuming 300-600 carbs a day, this is why I figured why I am so over weight. This is day 1, meal 2. So far so good. My body hasn't noticed the difference yet and I hope that I have the courage to stick with this program.
Many great wishes to you all.

Hi dame If you've read the book, you already know that somewhere in the first week, you will go through the "induction flu", called that, because the symptoms of carb withdrawal are similar to that of the flu. If you can make it through those hours (have aspirin handy!!) you will love how you feel when it's over!!
Welcome to ADBB and the Atkins w.o.e

Thanks Chicklady and Tornado for your kind words and support. What are the flu like symptoms I am supposed to experience? I believe withdrawals right?

I get to were I don't want to eat anything and I keep a constant headache. I haven't given up the caffeine yet, so the hardest part of the flu has not hit yet.
          Good luck.

Some people don't have any induction flu symptoms...I thought I had them but it was actually a virus that was going around here - my whole family had it so it was just my turn. Just because you don't go through them doesn't mean you aren't doing the plan correctly and you won't loose weight.

I hope you have read the DANDR book, have memorized the rules and list of acceptable foods and are on your way to the person in the mirror who smiles back at you.

Here is a link to the induction forum - you'll get a lot of help there as well as here. Atkins Diet 14-day Induction - Atkins Diet

Here are links to the rules of induction and acceptable food list. Print them out and post them where you'll see them (keep a list of the food in your purse so you'll have it when you shop).

The Rules of Induction can be found here:
http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...ead.php?t=6782 (What are the Rules of Induction?)

The Induction Acceptable Foods List can be found here:
            http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...on Induction?)

Keep track of your daily food intake, drink at least 64oz of water everyday (clear water, nothing added), exercise of some form daily is also mandatory.

Use this site to your advantage - the more you use it the more you'll get out of it.

Good luck - I look forward to read your success story!!
            Carole

              Re: Reinventing me...

Wow! Thanks so much for all of the great information. If giving up carbs is anything like giving up smoking and caffeine, I have an idea what I am in for. So far I have drank 2 liters of water in my first day and almost done with the first liter today. Water for me was the key to beating the caffeine withdrawals. I have read all of the first section and most of the second section of the DANDR. It was fun to grocery shop and fill my refrigerator with so many good foods. It took me almost 45 minutes to come up with a weekly grocery /daily menu of the foods I am allowed on induction.
On my second day, I really don't feel as deprived, or hungry after I have eaten as I have in the past on other diets. I am not sure my body knows we are on a diet. That is a good thing so far! As much as I want the person in the mirror to look good to me, I want to feel young and energetic too.

I love your description of your body not knowing it's on a diet!!! Maybe that's because it's not a diet, we call it a "Way Of Eating" (WOE)... LOL
