  • A wit's end

    Hi everyone,

I will be totally honest here. I am at wits end with all this extra weight that I have gained with my children. I had 4 kids under 6 years. Yes, yes, crazy I know! My husband and I would like to have more, but we feel that I have to get my weight and health in check before we can do that. Unfortunately it has proved to be a little daunting to lose weight. Because of this extra weight I am now have a hypothyroid, tired all the time and my feet and knees always hurt. I am 31, 5'3 and weigh 197 and I want to get back to 130. So I have a ways to go. I'm tired of being tired, I want to RUN and play with my kids. I used to be able to run 5k's like nothing and get out of bed in the morning with no problem! Heart problems run in the family, so I'm nervous about that. So there you go, everything laid out on the line. forgive me I am new to writing on a bulletin board.

So I have been doing Atkins for 2 weeks lost 7 lbs (of water I believe) and yesterday I just totally fell off the wagon. Sure enough this morning I gained 5 lbs back. I'm back on the wagon now, I will stay there. But can you guys give me some advice or suggestions on how to stick to this plan.

I love making whipping cream with stevia and some cocoa powder. That quells my sweet tooth. But can I eat to much fat and calories? (To be honest I can finish off a half a carton of whipping cream in one seating! Horrible I know!) For the second week of Ketosis I didn't lose any weight and the ketostix were purple. So does that mean I was eating to much fat, that Ketosis could only keep up with burning off my daily intake of calories and fat?

Okay that's all I have! I look forward to see what you have to say!

Welcome to ADBB Beckledge...I know how it feels to be 5'3" and so overweight - last year I was on my knees picking weeds out of the front yard and had to have my husband come help me up because I honestly couldn't get up...so embarrasing!

One thing I noticed is you like whip cream w/stevia & cocoa powder....cocoa is not allowed on induction and I the book says to use Splenda although some people are using Stevia, I just didn't like the after taste that came with it.

You should post your daily menu's here and see if anyone can find anything that might be keeping you from loosing.

You need to get your sweet tooth under control, after the 4th day I had no desire for sweets - if I ever think I want anything like that I soften cream cheese and add vanilla & 1/2 pkt of splenda - it tastes like ice cream....or I add cinnamon instead of vanilla to make a little desert.

How much water are you drinking each day? You need AT LEAST 64oz - no excuses, pure clear water. Exercises? What are you doing to help get your metabolism moving and burning fat?

Whenever I have meat I put 1 tablespoon of Hellman's Mayo on my plate and dunk the meat into it....I also dunk veggies in it...it keeps me from being hungry longer. If I need a snack in the afternoon the first thing I do is grab a large glass of water (I drink 30oz at a time) wait a few minutes to see if the feeling was thirst or hunger...if I'm still hungry I eat a piece of lunchmeat or chicken dunked in mayo again instead of sweets.

Please re-read the DANDR book and check your rules for induction and foods to eat -- you might find answers to your own questions. Start using FitDay to track your food intake if you aren't already....I wish you luck.

The Rules of Induction can be found here:

The Induction Acceptable Foods List can be found here:

      Thank you imagood1 !

I have read the DANDR, but it has been awhile. I will defientely re-read! I am drinking 64oz of water, but the exercising hasn't gone so well. I do chase after 4 kids, but I will get back on the exercise wagon.

Thanks again for all the advice!

At least read the rules and list of acceptable foods...that will help you now, but it's real important to re-read the book! As far as getting exercise in how about putting some music on the radio and get your kids to dance with you -- it's a good way to get your body shaking and wear out the kids at the same time!!!!! When you are dancing try a "simon says" type of thing - bend over, bend side to side, squat down, kick your arms and legs - have the kids follow what you are doing....you'll be surprised what a good work-out you can get.

        I wish you luck!!

          Re: A wit's end

I have the same problem with week two, every single time I try atkins. I follow the rules, but my body comes to a screeching halt. This time around, no weight loss at all in the second week as usual, but I am going to plug through. I am going to even drink more water, exercise more, and just measure with a tape more.

Hi Beck Carole gave you some great advice. I like to tell everuone to keep their book in top of the toilet tank and read it whenever you sit down

A good clean induction, with no exception, should send you into a state of "not hungry" and you'll have to remind yourself to eat! BTW, you are allowed 2-3 T of heavy cream per day, and 3 artificial sweetener servings.
