Hello, just wanted to introduce myself. I'm about to start the Atkin's diet this coming Monday. I'm finally ready to make the sacrifices I need to make in order to get healthy again. I attribute my weight gain as a result of several pregnancies, gaining too much during most of those pregnancies, and never getting back in shape between the pregnancies (I have 6 children, 5 of which are close together in age). I'm 10 years older now and weigh exactly twice as much as I used to, which I still can't believe. I want to be healthy and active again for not only myself but my children. Also, give them a good role model.

Re: Newbie
Hi, Cologirl... again.
I'm from a family of 6 children... all girls.... and we were stair-stepped, too! (I'm the oldest.)
So glad you've made a commitment to do this way of eating for yourself. It's so easy to neglect yourself when you have a big family. I'm very proud of you!!! And they will be very proud of you, too!
The very best of luck to you.
Look around the challenge section. It really helps me stay motivated when I have to login and report whether I exercised and drank all my water! You don't know how many days I would end up skipping them without the challenges!

Re: Newbie
Well, Sunny_One really hit it on the head. I have been neglecting myself. I'm so busy making sure everyone else is taken care of I forget about myself! Now with my blood pressure being high and having gestational diabetes with my last baby, I realize I need to get healthy again or I won't be taking care of anyone!!
Look forward to talking to all of you some more as I set out on this journey!

Re: Newbie
Hi and welcome!!! You didn't say how old your children are but I'm guessing they are pretty young and all around the same age.....I use to babysit and one of our "fun games" was to do a little Simple Simon-like game where I put music on and we touched our toes over and over or bent to the right then bent to the left...over and over...then we would jump or run or dance....they didn't know they were getting exercise and they didn't know they were helping me get in shape!!! Dancing is a great form of exercise and costs nothing!
Sunny is right about the challenges - they are a huge help!! Nyna told you about the stickies on the induction area. Here are a couple recipe sites you can use to make delicious meals - within a couple days I guarantee you won't feel you are "sacrificing" on this plan - I don't miss anything!!

Re: Newbie
Thanks, Imagood1. I love how motivating, encouraging and enthusiastic everyone is! It's really making me feel more at ease with the whole thing! I was just about to get on the internet and look up some low-carb recipes so thank you so much for those links. I'm going to use them for sure.
And yes, my kids are pretty young. Though I do have an 18-year-old. But the other 5 are all under the age of 10 (youngest being 6-1/2 months). And I've actually been trying to think of a way to get them to exercise and your dancing idea is perfect because they love to dance. I have a treadmill sitting in my office that I'm going to have to dust off for myself.
Thanks again for the positive words and much needed info.
