I'm 28yrs old and am 200lbs at 5'8''. I'm a full time nursing student (on my very last term), and a mother of one but engaged to 3. The last two years all I have done is sitting and studying.
Being overweight has almost been always a part of my life. I was a chubby kiddo, but found during my teenage years that if I just didn't eat I could be thin. Even though I remained a size 5 (until becoming pregnant at 19) I still would look in the mirror and call myself fat. I look back at those pictures now and realize how thin I actually was.
When I became pre-eclampsic everything changed. I went from something like 130lbs to 210lbs in a matter of about 5 months. Hence the ever so wonderful induced labor.
I have been overweight every since and have not had a very healthy attitude towards my body due to all the joyous after effects of being large and pregnant (stretch marks, "baby belly") and I think that is why I have done nothing about it. Does not mean I haven't tried to.... lol

I tried not eating as much and found that at it is retarded because it just makes me more hungry and overeat when I do eat. I tried Alli awhile back and it worked REALLY good!!! ... for a short period of time because after awhile you get so tired of eating so low fat. For me, eating almost no fat at all during the day would save me from the "side effects" (and I'd get them pretty bad) so I guess I am really sensitive to orlistat. NOT WORTH IT. I'd rather be fat than torture myself.

I purchased an extremely expensive elliptical machine and have only used it a hand full of times in almost a whole year. HA. What is wrong with me?

I have done Atkins before (I think in 2003) and it worked very well. I also lived in sunny Arizona at the time and had a swimming pool within a few steps and I had found that swimming everyday and atkins works really well. I lost 40lbs in no time flat but then I moved back to Oregon and started going to school, and well..... it came right back on in no time flat. Sitting and eating carbs does not mix. lol.

So here I am. I've decided to join a board for support. Apparently I need a lot of it especially when it comes to exercising. I am very out of shape and need some tips on how to get started and I definitely need motivation. To all of those who posted their success pictures - THANK YOU. That takes a lot of courage and it really REALLY helps me to stay motivated.
I started Atkins again a couple of weeks ago, got down 10lbs and then fell off of the wagon with a little bite of pizza here, and a little scoop of noodles there, and a taste of icecream here. Its SO easy to do. I need to find some good snack recipes (especially for the sweet tooth) to keep me going.

    Couple of questions -
Where in the heck do I paste my ticker? I think I have the code in the wrong spot. lol.
Could you wonderful people tell me how you got started exercising and what motivated you when you started? I'm pretty sure I'm going to start walking since the weather is so good. How long do you (did you) walk for that seemed to give you results?

How soon did everyone see the ketostix working? (I've read a few posts where sometimes they didn't work at all so I understand that they aren't always great indicators of ketosis)

And if anyone in my same age group needs a partner to team up with I'd be more than happy to be that person. I cannot convince any of my friends to do this with me (nor my fiance) so I'm lacking support in a big way. It would be nice to have a person to work with.
I started induction once again this morning. Only problem is that I HAVE to drink coffee in the morning... so we will see if I go into ketosis.=)

    Thanks for reading my ramblings...
