  • New here today

Hi. Thought I'd introduce myself. I'm a stay at home mom to 3 girls, ages 7,4 and 2. I'm always busy doing for the kids. Finally, I am taking some time for me. I started 2 weeks ago today and as of this morning I've lost 10 lbs. Problem is I'm addicted to the scale and nine of those lbs. came in the 1st week. I've been a bit frustrated but reading these boards has helped me push though. I think I know the problem though. This second week I started drinking some diet coke..not much, maybe 8-10oz, not even every day and I was adding some salt to some foods. So, I'm going to continue on extended induction this week without the diet coke and extra salt and see if I break the stall in weight loss. O'ya, I'm also having hubby hide the scale till Easter

    Welcome to the board, cjs!

Congrats on losing 10 lbs! That's a great start!

Weight loss does slow down the second week and it seems that the more you lose the first week, the less you lose the second one but it's because your body is adjusting to your new way of eating. So don't be discouraged because now you should begin a slow steady loss from now on.

The diet coke and the salt can be causing a slow down so it's best to eliminate it for now but you are doing great so keep it up. Drink lots of water and come to the board as often as you can because it's the best place on the web for support.

    See you around!

      good morning!

Welcome to the boards....and congrats on your success so far. 10 lbs is awesome! And good for you for putting yourself first for a change. We moms have a real tendency not to do that!

I'm one of those who is pro-measurement taking instead of scale-watching. Our bodies will fluctuate so much on the scale that it can easily become obsessive and upsetting inbetween the good days when the scale tells you something you want to see. I think it makes more sense to go by what the mirror and the fit of your clothes tells you. Much less pressure.

Leave the Coke in the can and embrace water..it'll do so much more for you.
Good luck and I hope to see you around soon!

OOOOOH-the scale addiction, I know it well...
Welcome! I too am a stay at home mom ( of a 5 and a 3 year old) but I also work part time as a substitute teacher.
It took until Jan '09 for me to finally take some time for me and start to lose what could really no longer be called "the baby weight" so I fully understand where you are coming from- and YEAH for you.
We no longer have a scale in our house- I just couldn't do it. Instead, I go to our local health unit and weigh myself there. I used to weigh myself every week, now I'm weighing every two weeks. Maybe, someday, I'll trust myself to go every three weeks.... but not yet
Don't forget- your body will keep changing even if the pounds don't seem to be moving- read posts about waiting and wooshing...pretty neat stuff.
