  • Hi

Hi everyone, glad to find this forum!
A little background on me: I am 42, and I had gastric bypass surgery in September 2001 and lost in the range of 130 - 140 pounds afterwards (started at 300). Gastric bypass patients are put on a low-carb, high-protein regimen post-op, and I really thrived on it. I kept off that weight within a ten-pound range for years afterwards. I got pregnant in 2005, gained only the minimum of weight during the pregnancy and was back at my pre-pregnancy weight within a month of my son's birth in January 2006. The problems came when I stopped breastfeeding him and didn't stop eating for two. I also got lazy and began eating way more rice and bread. Between the summer of 2006 and last fall my weight crept back until it hit 212 around last November or so. It stopped climbing then, thankfully.

I'm doing Atkins with the blessing of my gastric bypass surgeon to "reset" my body and get it back into that healthy mode that I enjoyed before getting lazy. I'm into my second week of Atkins induction, and doing really well on it - I've shed over ten pounds already. I plan to stay on induction until I lose about another ten or maybe 15 pounds, then go on to the OWL phase.

My goal weight at this point is 145 - 155. If I go strictly by BMI (which I am leery of), it says my ideal weight is 130, but I honestly think that because of my body type, I would look like Skeletress, Queen of the Damned at that weight, and I am not sure I could maintain it anyway. I know I can maintain easily in the 150 range so I think it is more realistic to shoot for that.

Anyway, that's it for now - thanks for reading if you got all the way through!
    Goal 1: 199 (May 2, 2009) // Goal 2: 185 (begin OWL) // Goal 3: 170 // Goal 4: 160 (begin pre-m) // Goal 5: 145 - 150

Welcome to the board, Felicitas! And congrats on your loss so far!!!

You definitely have a good plan and that's half the battle so I'm sure you will have no problem getting back to where you want to be. Especially since you've done Atkins before and know what a great diet it is. Good luck and keep us posted on your progress!

            Re: Hi

            hello all...

I just had gastric bypass on March 23rd. I am down 25 to 30 lbs (fluctuating...)

Anyhow...I am coming back to this forum because it appears that I will be following an Atkins type diet (slightly modified to be lower fat) for the rest of my life.

Everyone here has been wonderful and supportive, and so I know I will continue to be successful using the forum here!
