  • restarting Atkins...

    Hi there,

I am going to be restarting Atkins after about a year of being off the board...thank you to all the members that encouraged me to come back.

I tried weight watchers, but although that plan is very very good...I just don't have the same success as some people do. counting carbs seems to be a lot less work than counting points and I can actually go to a restaurant and eat my steak without feeling bad about it being a 20 point meal with my feta salad.

So...I'm going to have a small piece of cake and my last rum and diet coke for awhile at my hubby's birthday party and away we go!!!

Eating at work will be the hardest, as they like to stick horrible food in your face all day, everyday- so I'll need your support to stay strong.
I thank you in advance and promise to be just as supportive!!

    THANK YOU!!

    Re: restarting Atkins...

Hiya! A few years back when I first did the Atkins diet, I was working in an office and discovered how difficult it was when we were constantly being "blessed" with gifts from our vendors and customers... most of these gifts in the form of doughnuts or muffins or danish or pastry of some kind....

everything always got placed in the kitchen - where the fridge was and the microwave...

I discovered that if I was going to be successful, I had to STAY OUT of the kitchen. Those sweet things were always WAY too tempting... so, I began packing a small lunchbox cooler each day with my cold drinks and my lo-carb snacks, as long as I didn't have to go in the kitchen to get my drink or my cheese slices, then I could easily resist the temptations in the kitchen.

Every now and then I'd have something to eat that needed to be reheated in the microwave - and it was always a challenge - but most of the time I'd just pack some lunch meats and cheese OR something equally as yummy that didn't need to be warmed up.

I did well. I managed to lose about 25 lbs before I "fell off" the diet. My struggles weren't at work - they ended up being my home life... can't stay out of the kitchen at home when you are the cook and nobody else wanted to give up their breads and noodles and stuff... I had no support so I didn't last.

this time is different, I've got you guys now!

hi and welcome back. I hope your journey will be fun for you and that you'll meet a lot of great people here who will make sure you stay strong!

Here are a few links for recipe sites - they will help when you don't know whats for diner and have no time to cook...many of these meals take only minutes but taste like you spent hours in the kitchen. Make sure you are eating induction recipes to begin with -- I especially like the stuffed green peppers on Linda's site, which is amazing because I never liked them before Atkins!

Good luck - hope to see you around a lot!

              Hey hey!!

Thank you for the warm reception...the people on this board are absolutely amazing!!

I'm 4 days in and so far so good...I junked out hardcore before and now I don't even want to look at a sweet or a potato!!!!

I feel great- I'm reading the book again and although I am not tracking right now...3 days before I move on to OWL (I have decided after about 3 weeks) I am going to track in order to ensure I know all my levels. I have a friend who doesn't track or measure anything and she has lost a combined amount of 200lbs with this WOE ( she got pregnant and went hog wild with sweets instead of eating maintenance as the book suggests.

If she can succeed, I know I can (and I exercise a lot more!!)

I'm hoping to be near my goal weight by October for my Aunt's wedding. We'll see!! I can do it!

My computer is on the fritz right now...so I am posting from work, once I get the home one fixed up- I'll be able to journal!!

              thanks again!!

Thanks!! So far so good today!! I had a nice brunch of poached eggs with havarti hollandaise sauce and a green salad instead of toast and potatoes. MMMMMMMMMMM- I put the left-over sauce on my salad...yummy!!

for snack I had some hot wings (specially made at my hubbies pub un-battered and baked, just for me)
