  • The 2nd time around

I went on this diet back in 2006 and did very well. I think I lost a total of 23 lbs. I was down to 148 lbs. I just got lazy and started eating carbs and drinking pop and here I am at 186lbs and that is down from 194lbs. from 14 days ago.

I'm glad to be here due to some questions I have. First, I can't seem to get any further into ketosis than the "small" amount. Secondly, I have only lost 8 lbs. and that was all lost in the first week. Is this normal?

    Thanks so much,

    Debbie

Hi Debbie yeah, it's normal. As for ketosis, those sticks can't tell the story unless you are constantly peeing on them You could be spilling more through your breath or more other times of day when you're not measuring. Any shade of pink or purple is fine.

Check out STAC...the Second Time Around Club and welcome back to Atkins!!

hi Debbie -- if you are concerned about not losing any weight the second week of induction you can go to the Review My Menu forum Review My Menu - Atkins Diet - if you are eating something (or many things) you shouldn't be someone will be able to help you figure out what it is.

Are you drinking enough water? Dr. Atkins recommended AT LEAST 64 ounces of clear water a day -- that's not coffee, soda, tea....it's pure water - nothing added.

Good luck on your weight loss journey

        Re: The 2nd time around

Welcome to the board, Debbie! And congrats on your weight loss! That's a good start!

I would recommend that since you didn't lose the 2nd week, (I didn't either), that you don't stay on Induction but move up to rung 1 because there is something about adding those extras veggies that makes the weight start again. It could be that you aren't eating enough and your body has gone into starvation mode, which we don't want to happen.

Keep us posted on your progress!

          Re: The 2nd time around

Thank you Chicklady, imagood, and blueberrylady for your advice.

Chicklady, I will definitely check out STAC and I'm sure that I am expelling ketones in other ways that peeing. The strips are staying in the pink to darker pink zone so I guess I'm in ketosis!!

imagood, I will put my diet on the rate my menu forum. I try to drink a lot of water cuz I'm so darned thirsty! Thanks for the tip.

blueberrylady, I think you are right that I'm not eating enough. I'm just not hungry. I think the addition of a few more veggies will help. I took a test that Dr. Mercola has to determine what "nutrition" you are. There are 3 categories, Carb Type, Mixed Type, and Protein Type. I scored in the Mixed Type which means I need to eat a combination of protein and veggies at the same time.

My biggest hurdle was getting off sugar, namely Vanilla Dr. Pepper and eating ice cream, sugary coffee drinks etc. I kind of crave sweets sometimes but I think it is more emotional than an actual physical craving. I know what those are and this is different.

Anyway, overall, I'm feeling a lot better and have had more energy than I have had in a long, long time. I also have Lyme Disease and a Primary Immune Deficiency that I battle with and they reek havoc on my energy levels. I hope the extra energy keeps up and I can finally get to that Spring cleaning that I've been putting off for years.

Don't ya just love those little smiley's?

Thanks again for all of your help and I will keep you posted on my progress.

          Debbie
