Greetings, all
As I've written elsewhere in these forums, I've tried Atkins on two separate occasions but never did stick it out much beyond induction. My first ever Atkins experience, I stayed on induction for six weeks and lost 30 pounds. It was great. Unfortunately, I caved to peer pressure and wound up indulging in a huge carb-heavy dinner one night and all my old habits came rushing back thereafter. I fell off the wagon, gained back all my weight and then some. I tried again last year, but lasted about three weeks and just never felt the same as when I first tried it. Every day was a struggle, compared to my initial experience, but I still managed to lose 20 pounds over that period. Needless to say, here I am again...hoping to recapture the excitement I had when I first gave Atkins a shot.
I'm 33, going on 34, and I have a ton of weight to lose. I stand almost 5'10", more like 5'9 and a half, but it's been years since I've been at my ideal weight. Last week, just before I began, I found myself tipping the scales at my heaviest weight ever: 252 pounds! Incredible. For my frame and body type, I should be in the 170s...so I'm aiming to lose roughly 75 pounds! I'm confident I can do it, because most of my weight gain occurred during a period where I suffered from a devastating back injury. It lasted several years and kept me sedentary. Bad habits and sheer laziness have kept me heavy, even after my back was treated and I was clear to begin exercising again. Ah, exercise, that's something I didn't even include in my first two previous attempts living through Atkins.
So, I'm a few days in to my third attempt, and feeling ok with this induction period. It's very reminiscent of my first attempt. When I tried it a second time, every day was a struggle and I felt awful, but so far I don't have many cravings and my mind feels as focused as ever. It's probably attributable to my previous experience with induction, knowing my own track record and having the wisdom to know what needs to be done, but whatever the cause I hope it continues. I figured I'd join up into this community to share my experiences and learn from others about their own. This is my first time ever participating in a social arena centered on weight loss, but from what I've seen so far it's a great place to start. I'll do my best to continue that tradition as I move forward. Cheers.
