    Hello,

I am one of those who thought this diet was unhealthy. I always rolled my eyes and give my little 2 cents about why it was "bad" for you. I can not believe what an idiot I was for not reading up and getting all the information before I judged! I owned a ladies gym too! The products could have been a point of sale for me...duh.

So heres a lttle about me. Drank for many many years, and a total carb addict, my thyroid started not producing at top notch levels and my weight climbed to a whopping 214...the picture here is from a couple of years ago when I was at about 190lbs, (still pretty hefty for my smallish frame.)

I quit drinking Jan 08 and quit smoking last July. I figured going from a 12 pk a night to nothing I would lose just for that but, Newoooooooooo.

So here I am desperate and willing and able to try Atkins. My girlfriend who is older and wiser in such matters gave me the book to read and tons of tips.

Yesterday was day one. Had a great day! This morning I woke up, weighed myself and wa-la, down 2 lbs.

I am stoked to say the least. And I ate a ton of mixed field greens steak, eggs, celery cukes and all kinds of stuff. man-o-man, I am excited.

I am looking forward to being a part of this community!

    Aloha,

    Re: Brand spankn' new

    Welcome, Shelly!

You are to be congratulated for researching Atkins for yourself and finding out the truth. There are so many conflicting ideas out there, it's hard to know what's true unless you search out the answers for yourself.

BTDT with the drinking, out of control carbing and smoking! AND with the sluggish thyroid.

I got some wonderful advice to go on thyroid meds, but I am stubborn and prefer to do as much as I can without pharmaceuticals. So my weight loss has been frustratingly slow, but very steady. I started January 3 and have lost 17 pounds so far.... but I am very proud of that loss, and am committed to eating this way for the rest of my life, so the speed of the pounds coming off isn't really important.

I hope your weight loss is a lot faster than mine!!! But if it's slower than you expect, just know that it WILL come off.

The best thing is the incredible variety of foods you can eat. If you check our recipe section, along with others you'll see mentioned, you can eat gourmet quality meals every night of the week! It's impossible to get bored when you're eating that well.

So, again, welcome! And I'm so glad you joined us!

      Hello Sunny,
      Thanks for the welcome.

Good to hear you are getting results from naturals...I did a few products and I just was not getting better.

Found the stopthethyroidmadness site and a very good internist that practices alternative medicine....did a bunch of tests including an 8 panel hormonal saliva test, got on some bio identical progesterone and some cortisol glandular's, and went on Armor thyroid... and what do you know, not depressed anymore...(after 7 years of some pretty dark days that almost killed me!)

I did not go on anti-depressants even thou I was told that I absolutely must go on them to feel better...by 3 different docs!

      take care & see you!

          Re: Brand spankn' new

hi Shelly -- welcome home! I understand the need to stop the excess in your life. I stopped drinking March 24, 2008 - haven't touched a drop since that night. I stopped smoking July 4, 2007 and I started Atkins January 5, 2009. I don't miss what I had before and I'm finally loosing the weight I gained because of drinking and smoking. I smoked 3 packs a day for over 10 years (I smoked for 38 years total) - quit cold turkey...same with drinking - I was a 6 - 12 beers and "a few" Dewers & water a night gal for 10 years. Luckily I got out with my liver and lungs in tact for the most part.

I was diagnosed Type 2 diabetic last summer and decided I needed to do something....so I waited until Christmas and started looking for the next fad diet in my life. Instead I found Atkins and found my whole world changed overnight. I always said when I was ready I'd quit drinking...I did...then I said I would stop smoking....I did....now I'm loosing weight.

You can do this -- the food tastes wonderful, the people here are fantastic and the plan is SO easy to follow. I made it through Super Bowl and Easter -- I can make it through the fire of **** now!!! LOL

Good luck to you - if you need anything all you need to do is ask.

We have very similar stories imagood1. I was just diagnosed "Pre" diabetic. Pretty scary stuff. I smoked for 30 years myself - (quit one time for 4 years).

I too am sooooo lucky that my liver and lungs are ok, and that my skin doesn't look like it's 90 years old! I started taking very good nutritional supplements at an early age cuz I thought they would help me with hang overs!

Thanks for the welcome, it's nice knowing I am not alone.

I woke up this morning all jazzed because the scale showed I dropped a couple of lbs....(I am one of those who walks by the scale and hops on many times a day)....but I really think it was only bout one lb so far (end of day 2).

My husband makes me sick. We have been eating the exact same stuff for 2 days, Lots of protein, fat and veggies...except he eats a little more... (he's doing it with me - although he only really needs to lose maybe 10 lbs... 25 lbs max)...

Here we are on day 2 and he just weighed himself AFTER dinner and he has lost 5 lbs already. Phhttttt!

Thanks for that chinadoll. He has always been able to lose weight easily...just a wee bit disheartening especially since I worked out pretty hard the past 2 days and all he did was sit around boob-tuben'-it and cruised on the computer. Thanks for posting that, I need to only focus on me. It's not about him.

I got a chuckle from hearing this, especially as I currently reside in France. The word is actually "voilà" in French and voila in english. You used it correctly, it means "look there" or "behold" or maybe "there it is".

Good luck and hang in there.
