    Hi,
    I just wanted to inroduce myself. My name is Mike, I'm from Brooklyn N.Y. and I just started the Atkins diet today! My goal is to lose 30 lbs. I came across this board accidentally while doing a google search to see if I was allowed to drink tequila during the induction phase, but from what I read, I don't think I can. If I understand correctly, you are allowed to drink clear alcohol such as tequila and Vodka, but when can I start?? If I can't have chocolate, I'd like to be able to have a few drinks instead

    Alcohol is a no no until OWL (ongoing weight loss phase) Rung 5. During induction you cannot consume any alcohol at all. Sorry. The good news is a few days into induction the chocolate craving will disappear. I used to eat it every day. No longer care for it at all! So, that being said...

    WELCOME TO You're going to love it here! I wish I only had 30 lbs to lose!! You're going to do very well! Make sure you visit this site daily and post often! It will absolutely help keep you on track.

        hi Mike -- to be able to do the Atkins plan correctly you need to get a copy of the 2002 DANDR book, the edition we use here on the site. You need to read it and understand the science and principles of the plan. Amazon has copies you can purchase that (with shipping) cost right around $10.00. To get you through until you can get a copy of the book you can read the stickies at the top of the Induction area Atkins Diet 14-day Induction - Atkins Diet
        and amazingly, the first stickie is about sweets addiction. Liquor isn't allowed until Rung 5 of the plan so you'll have to do without for awhile.

        You also need to make sure you are drinking at least 64 ounces of pure water (not coffee, tea, soda's - clear water) each day , do some form of exercise everyday and eat no more than 20 net carbs per day. If you do a clean 14 day induction you will have no cravings, you will feel better than you have in years and will have excess energy. This is an amazing way of eating (WOE) - no wonder so many of us are loosing weight easily.

        I'm sending some links you really need to read and follow. Also sending recipe links so you don't get bored eating the same old thing -- make sure you are eating induction recipes to begin with but once you go on to OWL (ongoing weight loss) you can eat a bigger variety of foods.
