  • Starting today!

    Hello, Everyone!

I've been doing low carb for about 3 years, my own hybrid. So far, I have been successful. I'm hypothryroid and on medication, which is a constant challenge! I started induction today, and plan to move up the levels after 2 weeks until I'm at a level around what I do currently. I don't have much to lose, but I want to kick it up a notch until I feel at my personal best.
I would be interested if anyone else felt similar, and was successful with this approach? Like how long it took them?

My Mom is also trying a low carb approach for the first time, and will be starting induction on Monday. I'm joining her in induction for moral support also.

This looks like a great forum, and Wow - some of these success stories are so inspiring!

    Re: Starting today!

Hi, Ruby Welcome to the board ... it's a great site, for sure

You're 126 lbs. now? You sound tiny already! You say you did a version of low carb for 3 years .... do you mind if I ask how much weight you lost over that period?

I'm 10 lbs. from goal myself ... been stuck on 150 since the beginning of the year ; that may be my set point, I don't know.

Anyway, great that you and your mom are doing this together ... can't beat a built-in support system!

        Re: Starting today!

Thank you for the warm welcome.

FLdoodette, regarding your question... I lost 45 pounds doing my own thing, it took me about a year and 1/2. I didn't follow any particular plan, but incorporated some things here, and some things there that suited me.

My hubby lifts weights, and shared with me about the higher protein, minimal carbs approach for building muscle. He also helped me put a gym routine together, and answered my questions - I owe him alot of credit. This approach worked much better for me than low-fat, I had felt very frustrated. I also didn't realize I was hypothyroid, and needed medication.

I grew up with health food, and I like whole foods best. I read the book SuperFoods, and incorporated those foods that reduce risk of stroke into my low carb plan. (Family history of this) Watched the documentary SuperSize me, and have only been to McDonalds 2x since. Stopped drinking soda too.

A tweak here, a tweak there... Has worked for me so far. My meds had to be adjusted the last couple of months, causing a mystery 5 pound creep from my target. So, here I am! Time to tweak again, and say bye-bye to the mystery 5.

I feel so impressed with those of you who have lost so much. I know it's hard, and I refuse to ever go more than 10 pounds over my target.

Beyond that, I feel being hypothyroid this will be a life challenge for me. I would like to make some like-minded friends to help keep me motivated, lookin' hot, and healthy to boot! I'm a bit of a free spirit type, so I hope there's some room for a gal like me here.
