  • Hello from a no-so-newbie

    Hello All!

I just decided today to get back on Atkins because it worked so well for me in the past. I had some setbacks in the last few years, such as pregnancy and surgery, not to mention thyroid problems, which caused me to gain back a majority of the 90 pounds I lost.

I have tried several times in the last year or so to get back on a low-carb diet, but I keep failing. One reason is my new husband, who is against low-carb diets. Another reason is that it can be expensive. Also, I have 2 young children that I don't expect to eat exactly what I have to eat. I have a hard time eating fresh produce all the time and find it difficult to find easy and inexpensive foods to fit my family and my busy lifestyle.

I decided that this time I'd try something different--find a group going through what I'm going through, that can help me get through it. I'm hoping that the interaction and support of a group like this will make this time work for me. And maybe I can even help someone else in the process!

    Hi Jody,
I am glad to hear that you have had an Atkins success in the past.

I am new to this way of eating and I find it extremely easy. I mean the food prep is simple and I would imagine most kids would love the majority of it. I have been trying to get myself in the kitchen regularly for quite some time, and this has done it for me!

We used to meals eat out oh....6-8 times a week...(some of that fast food!) So for us, we are saving BUCKS. We are purchasing all of our eggs, meats, cheeses from costco, which makes it less expensive as well.

I have not had ANY super MEAN cravings since I have been on this diet. Last week I would get a little urging crave here and there but for the most part, so far it's been pretty easy...and I have lost somewhere between 6 and 8 lbs so far. (scale has been going up and down a lb for a few days now)! Cool.

    Good luck!
I am sure you can do this If I, the total carb addict can!!...I mean, I was eating candy corn!!! Like a 1/3 of the bag at a time for crying out loud...I was out of control for quite some time.

      Re: Hello from a no-so-newbie

I can't speak to the difficulty of having family members that aren't educated about the low carb lifestyle so I won't even try. My husband and son were very supportive and enjoyed the benefits of having home cooked meals every night with ample low carb snacks in the refrigerator.

Read DANDR 2002. All the answers are contained in Dr. Atkins's own words. Make a copy of the Rules of Induction and the Acceptable Food List for Induction. They are available as "stickies". Study the list and the rules and make a commitment that you can follow this plan because it does work. I've, happily, been following this WOL for five years plus.
