Hi all! My name's Spellchick. I just started Atkin's yesterday along with my BF and ran across this message board while looking for other information about the diet. I plan to utilize it as a tool on my journey.
Let's see. I am 30, soon to be 31. I used to be fit, muscular, active, and weighed about 185 in those days. Then I graduated HS, started college but opted to get married instead of finishing, had my son, and pretty much just stopped moving unless I needed to. I gained about 70 pounds during my marriage. We got divorced almost 4 years ago, and since then, I have gained another 30 pounds, making my grand total a nice, round 100 pounds. I just woke up one day, and BAM! I'm fat! How did that happen?! I learned to deal with it and accept it. I've grown comfortable to a certain degree being a "big" girl. But, it finally hit me just how "big" I am when I almost needed a seatbelt extender on the plane on a recent trip, so here I am!
My family has a rampant history of diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, and various other ugly diseases, so I have realized I need to sort out the weight issue soon or I will end up with one or all of them myself eventually.
I've tried other diets before, primarily WW, but never could stick with them because I always felt hungry and deprived. BF mentioned Atkin's and said he had lost quite a bit on it some time back and that he wanted to do it again so I agreed to start with him. We both realize now that this is a lifelong lifestyle commitment we're making, but how can you go wrong when you can eat meat and cheese and Alfredo sauce on a diet?! I'll trade a piece of chocolate for that any day of the week!
If anyone has any advice, tips, or anything else you would like to share with this noob, let me have it! I'm looking forward to the journey and especially looking forward to being as attractive and healthy on the outside as I feel I am on the inside.
