  • Induction Introduction

Hi, I just started Atkins a week ago and already hit a plateau. I started researching the diet on the internet and found this forum. I've been browsing the past couple of days and I have to say that the progress I have seen is extremely motivating.

A little more about me, I am 37 year old woman and a mother of 3. I just had my last one 5 months ago. I currently weigh 154 and I am 5'4", my goal is 120 since I have small bones. This is the first time I have ever had any difficulty loosing weight, I was stuck on 159 pounds for months even though I drastically changed my eating habits. It wasn't until I cut out the carbs that I finally started to loose weight as of last week and now I am 154.

I was so disappointed that my weight loss has stopped the past couple of days so I went on a carb binge yesterday and much to my surprise, I didn't gain a pound. First I ate some cheesecake, 2 servings, it tasted disgusting because I haven't eaten anything like that in months. Then I ate a handfull of Cheetos, those were a little more satisfying but I felt so sick after that. Sooooo then, I had to eat some 65% dark chocolate cocoa, NOW THAT tasted good and then I stopped. It wasn't a totall pig out session and the processed food just didn't taste good at all. But the chocolate hit the spot.

I started the diet over this morning and changed my veggies too because I think I was eating high carb veggies so I am sticking to only spinache, bok choy and some red cabbage but only to add into a soup with garlic.

I weighed 154 this morning and this afternoon I weighed 152.5 I like the second weight better but I heard the morning weight is the true weight. Does anyone else weigh various amounts during the day or should I stop looking at the scale because I've lost an inch and my pants are already fitting different.

I also work out one hour on the eliptical 5 days and week.

    Ok, I'll pipe it now.

Welcome -- there are plenty of veggies you can choose so you won't be bored with the same thing over and over....5 pounds the first week being on the plan is great.

Make sure you drink plenty of water (at least 64 ounces a day of pure water) to help flush all the nasties out of your system and to keep your organs working properly so you loose weight easier.

Exercise of some sort is mandatory as Dr Atkins wrote in the 2002 DANDR edition. Hope you have the book and have read it so you understand the program. There is no need to starve yourself, that doesn't work - the book explains the reasoning and science behind the plan.

    Good luck on your journey.

It is not unusual for people to lose in odd patterns where you will go sometimes two or three weeks before dropping several pounds at once. Don't let yourself binge just because the scale is not cooperating for a few days. I true plateau is a month of no change in either pounds or inches. A week is a blink of an eye. If you eat off plan every time the scale doesn't budge, you may not always be as lucky as you were this time. However you may not yet have seen the effects of your cheat.

Don't be surprised if you gain a little in the next few days or the scale doesnt budge for another week now. THAT will more likely be the result of the carbs you ate yesterday.

Welcome and best of luck on your journey.
      JILL

      HW 298
      HW (this time) 248
      GOAL ONE 228
      (take 2)
      GOAL TWO 213 (personal goal)
      GOAL THREE 199 ONE-DERLAND
      FINAL GOAL 165

It's not about the results. Its about the process.

Thanks for the GL link, that is going to be useful. I do have the Atkins for Life book and the cookbook his wife wrote. I found them both at the dollar store and the Atkins for life did explain the diet.

The water part I keep forgetting about, thanks for the reminder.

I was making a big mistake, I was drinking EAS protein shakes with 2 net carbs and no sugar or aspartame in them. I read here that those were effecting the diets in bad ways. I weighed 149 on Sunday and went up to the 154 and stuck there the days I drank the drink. I drank one yesterday before I knew they were bad.

I think I panicked about the stall too soon. I have been stuck at a certain weight for months and then feeling like I was stuck at 154 was a bummer. I haven't weighed myself yet today but I hope it doesn't go back up again.
