  • Hello! Nice to meet everyone!

Hi Everyone! I'm new to the board (glad to have found it) and beginning Induction on Monday!!!

I did Atkins about 5 years ago and lost a total of 86 lbs. I'm so sad to be back where I started. This time I am doing it "medically supervised" ... Yesterday, I had all of my blood work drawn, my doctor will be monitoring my progress and repeating blood work every 3 months and I am also seeing a psychologist that specializes in weight loss. My diet will also be evaluated by a dietician familiar with Atkins. This was the only way I thought I could do it and have lasting progress this time!

I am missing some of the motivation I had the 1st time I did this but I am determined to find it. I am one of the most confident, strong willed women I know .... it seems so crazy that losing weight seems unfathomable. I also have to get better at drinking water!!!!

So I'm starting Atkins and I'm looking to all of you for support ... and I'll give it back!

    Ready ... Set .... Go

      Hi, Denyse

Thank you for sharing your story. I can really relate to what you wrote above... when I re-started the Atkins WOE in Feb '07, I pretty much felt hopeless. After going through an unexpected, difficult medical issue, I let myself stray from the Atkins path... I re-gained 32 of the 60 pounds I had lost in the year prior to the surgery. Out of desperation, I tried NutriSystem. While I lost about 9 pounds in 3 weeks doing it, I eventually rebelled so much at the gross food that not only did I gain those 9 pounds back, but I actually gained even more. My husband saw how depressed I was and finally sat me down, and begged me to give Atkins another try because it had worked for me before. I started the next day, with a determination to do everything exactly the way it was supposed to be done. And I haven't looked back.

I'm very happy that you've found us.

Oh my GOD, you look AMAZING! Thank you. Today is Day 1! I made an interesting cheeseburger quiche last nite and really enjoyed cooking for myself last nite for the week. My husband grilled me some yummy thin boneless pork chops marinated in soy sauce and garlic for lunch this week. I'm determined to do induction EXACTLY as it's supposed to be done. One day at a time!!! Thank you, thank you for the message, it's VERY motivating!!!!

You said you need to get better at drinking water....I have a 30 oz jug that has a lid and straw that I carry around and drink out of all day long.....I started drinking water a couple days after Atkins and now I can't imagine a day without water!

Good luck with your journey this time. You will find your strength in a couple days. If you need anything all you have to do is ask!!

Re: Hello! Nice to meet everyone!

Hi Carole, thanks!!!! Yes, the water thing is hard but yesterday I managed 70.8 oz. of water ... not bad but I pee'd like 10 times ... I don't have time for that!!! Ha! As my husband said ... "Oh, but you have time for dialysis?" That put things into perspective for me!

I had a major downer before I went to bed last nite .... I got on my Fitday last night and did all of my logging and somehow it logged 1 whole onion as 25 g of carbs???!?!?!?!?!?! I was distraught. It threw me 25 carbs over for the day!!!! My husband felt even worse since he made my dinner. I'm going to do research today. There cannot be 25 carbs in an onion....can there be???

I had my blood work drawn on Thursday, had my measurements taken on Sunday and I had my first session with the Weight Management Psychologist today. I feel like I can't give up because I'm accountable to all these people!

Thanks for the encouragement, I am looking forward to the support I can give and get here!
