  • Need Help!!!

Hi everyone. I am restarting induction again tommorow. I start out doing well each time and then I get off track... binge on carbs...gain back the few pound a lost and then a couple extra.
I am 32 years old. I have 4 great boys. They are13,10,2 and 1. After number two I was able to get to around 170. I was only about 10 pounds heavier than what my target range is for my height. I had babies 3 and 4 12 months apart. Despite this I was 185 at my 6 week check up after baby 4. Not too bad... The bad news is is that I gained almost 20 pounds since having him 15 months ago. I blame some of it on the fact that I am no longer working. The rest I know is just horrible eating habits. I am a "picker" I pick at everything all day long. I pick off my kids plates, I am constantly grabbing something in the fridge or goodie cabinet. I am addicted to diet mt dew. I know there are no calories in this but I have read that the caffiene can cause carb cravings.
I am a mess. My weight has causes me to be depressed. I obsess over my weight constantly. Instead of doing anything about it though, I eat alot and say tommorow im going on a diet. I go on a low cal, low fat diet and I starve. By evening, I am eating everything I can. I know in my heart that atkins is for me. I have done alot of research on this. I know that by doing the phases, in the end I will have taught my body the proper way to eat. I have so much trouble though getting to that point. My husband swears this is a fad diet and it is the reason I have gained 15 pounds. I dont think he is right though.
Anyways, thank you to anyone who has made it to the end of this post. I just needed to get my thoughts off my mind...
The only question I have.. I am not a fan of vegetables. I have been trying to force myself to eat them hoping I will develop a taste for them. Does anyone have ideas on how I can add some good legal flavor to them???

    Thanks alot.

    Hi, bearycute

I know that it's hard at first... but it really is true, that if you can get through the first week absolutely cheat-free, it defintely gets easier. Ketosis has an appetite-supressing effect. If you look through the posts on this board, you will actually find some from people who have to make themsleves eat. I know it sounds unbelievable, but it's true. Just try to tell yourself that Induction is only 2 weeks out of your life... dig deep, and commit to just 2 weeks. By the end, you will feel better and it will be easier to stay on plan. Then you can move onto OWL and start adding some foods.

About your husband thinking this is a fad diet - please feel free to show him my pics. I have more before and after pics in the albums in my profile, too. Also, it may make him feel better to know that my doctor is 100% pro-Atkins and is the one who pointed me in this direction.

Vegetables - LOL (she steps up on her soap box) Dr. Atkins was very clear that most of our net carbs should come from vegetables. Prior to Atkins, I wouldn't touch a veggie with a 10 foot pole. And on my first attempt, I never ate more than a little salad every now and then. While I was able to lose some weight, I never reached goal or was able to maintain what I did lose. This time around, I vowed to do the plan by the book... I tried tons of veggies with an open mind. And guess what? I don't just tolerate veggies... I actually like them! I was able to reach goal, and I'm still loving my veggies.

Here is an example of a great way to have veggies:

    From Linda's website:

Linda's Low Carb Menus & Recipes

    "LOADED" CAULIFLOWER
    1 cup cooked cauliflower
    1 teaspoon butter
    Salt and pepper, to taste
    1 ounce cheddar cheese, shredded
1 tablespoon ranch dressing or sour cream
    1 strip bacon, crumbled
    1 teaspoon chives
Butter and season the cauliflower. Place in an individual-serving baking dish, then top with the cheese. Microwave or broil until the cheese is melted. Top with ranch dressing, bacon and chives.
    Makes 1 serving
    Do not freeze
Per Serving: 290 Calories; 25g Fat; 12g Protein; 6g Carbohydrate; 3g Dietary Fiber; 3g Net Carbs
I wasn't trying to pretend that this was a baked potato, but I had the idea of topping cauliflower with all of the things that go on a baked potato. It was quite good.

    -------------------------------------

This is from a website that a lot of us use for recipes. I've included the link, so check it out. I use sour cream in the recipe above (never tried the ranch). It's really good!

In a few weeks, I am hosting the board's Semi Annual Veggie Challenge. My first Veggie Challenge was a turning point in my Atkins journey... it opened my eyes to the way to make this a healthy lifestyle - forever! We have a lot of fun in the challenge and it's a great way to make new friends and discover new recipes. I'll be looking for you!

I know this is probably not why you don't like veggies, but my grandmother cooked for us and she made mush out of ever thing she cooked, and veggies were horrid. When my mother cooked, she thought she was French Chef Julia Childs and would make the nastiest things. SOooo as you can imagine, I hated anything that grew. But then I learned how to cook. OMG, did you know that you can roast and grill veggies and some are as sweet as candy, others taste sooooo good I was shocked.
Take it easy, start with veggies you might like, pickles, cucumbers, try them fresh, dipped in ranch or blue cheese, experiment. We can do this
